Is light the limiting factor on the yield?

Is light the limiting factor on the yield?
-Here are the two scenarios
1.Say I have 8 plants in a 2x4 grow tent with a 400w watt hps that have been vegged until they were 12" tall. Same genetics just cutting from a mother plant. They flower for 8 weeks in this tent.

2.Say I have 4 plants from the same mother plant as above in a 2x4 grow tent with a 400w watt hps that have been vegged until they were 12" tall. They flower for 8 weeks in this tent.

Which would yield more?

-Any input would be appreciated

Hi,

Just so happens I have a 2x4 foot cabinet I grow in. I also use a 400w light. I have grown eight plants in the past and now I am growing six in it. (Dual cab journal link in sig) What I have found so far is these six plants have filled out the cab like the eight would have.

My opinion would be that plants seem to use up the available space and slow there growth when they run out of space.
So my guess to your question is it would be close.

Thanks for the info cruzer,
I'm curious if it will take the six plants longer to yield what the 8 plants would have yielded in the same amount of time? Lemme know what you find...

Lux, space, genetics, humidity, temperatures, CO2, medium, nutes...so many variables that it's impossible to know for sure. Generally speaking, maximizing light intensity reaching the canopy is one of the most important factors for good yeild, hence ScroG, SoG, lollipoping, etc.
