is my res too cold?

Trust me, any issues you might see with the water colder is not worth the potential and possible problems of adding a heater.

I have never had an issue with water heaters in my res. I grow only hydro and aero for the last oh 12 years or so. I run 12 res at a time from 20 gallon to 100 gallon res and no issues ever. im not sure how you could get an issue unless you got real lazy and didnt add a simple stick on or float thermometer to see the water temps.I live where temps lately have been 30 to 60 below zero so I always use them.

I also have run aero for years and also run multiple res's and I have seen many people have issues when adding a heater because you have an area that is around the heater that will always be warmer and can result in a perfect environment for slime. A heater is just not needed, it is a potential problem area that could kill a grow.

I don't think you understand how a wand works?
You set them to a certain temp, when the water starts falling below that temp, they come on.

I am currently using two in a 25 gallon res because ambient temps here are zero degrees.
frozen water doesn't flow bro, lol.
I have yet to see any mold in that can sustain life kind of environment.

room temp and water temp are two of the most important things to control.
I dont think that is up for debate?
get the wand. your plants will be happier.

Ummmm, yes, I've used them. There will always be an area around the heater that is much warmer than outer res area and it is a breeding ground. The only time I ever had a problem in aero came from a heater in my cloner.

Trust this guy he is spot on ^^
cold res has more oxygen
would need to be freezing to even begin to cause issues
which would only be maybe some colorful leaves and buds
if the thermostat breaks on a heater it will damage the plants
i see fast growth in my system i always keep the res as cold as possible which is not too difficult being in the UK
while at canopy level they are 80f

Actually, i do. You would never see mold there, it would be slime.. But hey, its just experience talking, not my ass.

Heres how an old chinese guy explained it to me . Lest look at it from a fishes point of view . Ever wonder why some fish in wamer water climates , gulp air ? Its due to the FACT that water over 72 degrees looses its ability to retain oxygen . Thus higher than 72 degrees is not real bad , but 78 would be terrible . Ever notice most fish kills happen in hot water ? Optimum , from what ive experienced is somewhere round 65-70 degrees is usually pretty good .
Have you ever jumped in 50 degree water ? What does it do to you ? Shock right ? Same thing happens with ice cold water on roots ... say your in Florida , on a 90 degree day and you jump into blue springs , which has a constant 70 degree water temo all year round . Itll make yer balls shrink let me tell ya , and your nipples almost explode . SO if youve got a 75-80 degree grow room and your dumping 50 degree water into the roots ..... well ? SO kiddies , from what ive read and talked , and eperienced ..... 75-80 on your room temp , keep that water round 67 . If you can . BUT please dont let it get into the mid to upper 70's , 80's . Might as well throw away that air pump . AND oh yeah , if your using organic nutrients as well , they just get nasty , smelly and want to ferment , QUICKLY over 75 degrees .
