Is there a way out?

We all come to this planet bare ass naked and a bare canvas. Where does our persona begin? Will dumb ass parents make us dumb ass? Will overly intelligent parents make us geniuses? The age old question of Heredity VS circumstance still confounds Psychiatrists. The general consensus is it's a little of both. Can a genius child born to homless parents be a success? Can a dumbass child born to wealthy parents be a success? Well the latter is definently true, IE G.W.Bush. The real world dictates that wealth of parents overules all other parameters in the success of the child. So the question remains, Is there a way out for the poor class, a way to be financially successful. The right would have us believe it is all up to the individual, regardless of social status, IE A poor black child born to homeless black parents in Watts has the same chance in life as a sparckly white child born to wealthy white parents on the hill. I say Bullshit. The chance of financial success is directly related to the financial condition of the parents. The way out of poverty is birthright. Maybe one out of a hundred thousand poor kids grows up to be financially successful, while 99 out of a hundred rich kids grow up to be successful. I say, spread the wealth, that is the way out for the world. There is enough money to go around and let every man, woman and child be financially stable. We could end poverty, homelessness, starvation, depression, self loathing, a myriad of maladies pervading our society by simply re-distributing the wealth. Yes, the rich would have massive strokes over the Idea, fighting it tooth and nail, but the Idea is that there are more of us than them. Let's get started. BTW, the sundown of the Bush Tax Cuts must proceed without interuption or our deficit (The Big Problem for righties) will inherit 3+ trillion more debt. How can anyone with half a brain see the continuation of tax cuts for the rich to be a good thing?

I've been having a similar thought for a while. I'd like to see some studies done, I'm sure they're out there, that could put some evidence behind that conclusion.

It's extremely hard for a poor person to become wealthy, and the wealthier you begin life the better chances you will have at remaining "successful" (ie. wealthy).

Throw in ideologies that people like myself refuse to buy into and it makes it virtually impossible to climb the ladder in this world without going against your own moral code or using the same system you're against for your own personal benefit at the cost of others.

Capitalism eh...

i say fuck their money. i dont want wealth i want subsistence. but too many people today want shit without working/paying for it. we have all this "knowledge" but yet if all stores were to close tomorrow, how many of us would kno how to feed ourselves? oh yea, just take it. i guess thats a win for public education.

Some of you guys are stuck in the notion that to be successful and live a good life you have to be extremely wealthy. Especially you Med, you must be the most envious of wealth I have ever seen, maybe the reason you post in green eh?

Only in the Western world does wealth = success.

They should do a study of how many wealthy fuckers on their death bed wished they had worked more.

It's all about your mindset and what's important to you. If the aquisition of wealth and material things is a priority to you then you just have to adjust your mindset and you WILL acheive! Nobody every accomplished a thing with a defeatist attitude.;-)

I was just pointing out that what society views as "successful" these days is mainly a persons pocketbook. All the way down to the closest friends and family members. I hardly know anybody with the same opinions about money/success/happiness that I have. Everybody is brainwashed to think they need this or that, the movie Fight Club (and probably the book too, though I haven't read it) puts this idea in perfect perspective. It's perpetuated by our way of life and the way we do things on a day to day basis.

Just yesterday a person commented on this shit and totally judged me like it was nothing. Things like that illustrate exactly what it means to be "successful" in our society. It is fuckin' disgusting if you ask me. I refuse to take a part in it, and if that means being in poverty my whole life, I'd rather live it knowing I wasn't voluntarily part of a system that benefits off of modern day rape and pillaging of other societies.

Sure there are ways out, but as mentioned, these opportunities are few and far between, and the odds are always against you, and the competition is only getting tougher.

And fuck, if all else fails, it's not like I'm above robbing a bank.

I'm serious.

What is important to me is irrelevant as far as the US gov. is concerned. I could lead the most simple life possible, but our laws wouldn't allow it, the system wouldn't allow it. That's the thing, material shit is the least important thing of all to me, but everyone else around me believes you must have all this pointless, meaningless stuff that is nothing, junk, bullshit when you think about it to be successful. Without it you can't be. Without it you can't even be taken seriously.

Why couldnt the government not spend as much? Why do we need to triple our debt in 20 years? Who will you take money from once the rich are poor?

Says who? I sense a bit of envy. The system won't allow what? Evidently things must be way different over on the west coast. Wealth is a state of mind. I've met more "wealthy" people who didn't have a pot to piss in..............I know this sounds cliche but nobody can tell you what kind of life to live or how to live it. Only YOU can decide what constitutes wealth. I sense this utter disdain, from you and medman, for anybody who has status or material wealth. Then you say material wealth isn't important to you. What gives? You might be able to fool other people but you will never be able to fool yourself. It's ok and it's quite normal to envy those who have more than you. There will always be people who have more than you and there will always be people who have way less. Stop worrying about what everybody else has and bitching about it and live your own life. Find what makes YOU happy. If big houses and boats and shit would make you happy, then you've got to find a way to aquire those things. If you decide that they won't bring you happiness, then you need to find fulfillment in some other way.:weed:

See, you spouted exactly what I said the righties would say. It's all up to the individual. You don't see the psychology of poor at all. You think any poor child could just decide to be rich and proceed to the end. There is a whole psyche that goes with poor, a cloud of failure brought on by their parents and friends that make it almost impossible to succeed. Do I personally envy those with wealth, I suppose a little, not their personal life style, but their ability do things outside my finances. Example: I'd like to be able to go anywhere in the world on vacations, anytime I wanted, a priveledge of the wealthy. I'd like to have a cabin in the north for summer and a villa in Mexico for winters. My auto cravings are pretty wild, a ZR1 corvette, 100K, A 34 ford coupe rod, and a few other luxuries that we can't afford. Ya, I'm jealous every time I see some nutter in a 34 three window that knows nothing about building one, just has the cash to afford one. Call me mr. jealous. But the problem is larger than I, it encompases a plethora of poor and lower class individuals that have less than neccessary to have a comfortable life. I have a comfortable life, a decent home, a hotrod, a like new truck, a retirement sufficient to keep me alive, Two beautiful grandaughters to make me smile, a wonderful wife and grandma, yes life is good for me. Would I like more money, of course, I think that feeling is universal.

I explained my envy before. I would like to have more wealth, the universal desire I'd say, no matter how wealthy one is, they always want more. Actually, compared to the rest of the world, like 3rd world citizens, I'm very wealthy. I make more in a week that most of them make in a year. Just that here that doesn't buy that much. If I moved to a 3rd world country and took my retirement with me I'd be one of the wealthiest citizens in that country. It is all contextual/comparative. Everyone has wants and desires, calling me envious doesn't address the context of this thread, it is a personal affront. Please be more courteous.

Trying to create a society where are all equal and nobody has more than anybody else is pie in the sky bro. You probably hit on something extremely important in all of this; psychology of poverty. So would you have the govt. pay for counseling for all the "poor children" so they could break out of the poverty mindset? I get it though, you're a dreamer and it's good to have dreams. I used to share a similar dream and then I grew up. ;-)

Sir Thomas More came up with the word "Utopia" which is a derivitive of 2 greek words which translated roughly means "Not place" meaning he didn't consider the idea of such a place realistically possible.:weed:

So tax the shit out of the rich so they are no longer rich?

Where's the incentive to get a higher education? Why would someone do something very difficult (he had to go to school for like 10 years) when it's easier and cheaper to do nothing? How will they pay off that student loan anyways?

The rest of your post is bullshit BTW.
