Is this a phosphorus deficiency? Pix!

I FIXED THE PROBLEM WITH THE PHOTOS -- They had appeared to be fine in the preview, so I don't know what happened in the posting...

Hey Folks!

Sorry for the hurried post but I have to get to work. I just checked on my two stellar hydro plants, and overnight one has developed leaf issues on the upper leaves of the biggest branches. Here are some pix:


This plant has been growing like crazy -- about 2 inches a day for the last week. Since that growth started, it's been harder to keep the ph down. She used to be a very steady 5.8, but in the last week or so it's been rising to 6.2 or 6.3 every 12 hours, and I bring it down again.

There are some early signs of sexing (she's just about 3.5 weeks old from veg, 5.5 from germination), and there is good a chance it's a girl. I'll know for sure in another day or two. And she's some 20 inches high. I topped once to just above the second node almost 2 weeks ago. Her nutrients are Advanced Nutrients Micro, Grow and Bloom, full strength now. And she's been getting Cal Mag as directed because she did have a magnesium deficiency last week.

I'm thinking this might be phosphorus, which I just read can get locked out about 5.8...thoughts????? So many deficiencies look alike to a newbie!!!

If someone can help diagnose and then recommend the treatment, I'd much appreciate it!

Adv nutes and grow and bloom give you all the nutes needed so it must be the ph rise.

I just fixed the photos, so if someone could take a look, I'd much appreciate it.

No, it's hydro, which is why I've been keeping the ph as close to 5.6-5.8 as possible. 3.5 gallon pots. Roots have been bright white, though the Cal Mag seems to stain them a smidge. No slime in the buckets. Good air pump action.

Could it be a chlorine deficiency? RIU nutrient deficiency guide mentions a bronze look to the leaves of plants with a chlorine deficiency.

How would I adjust for that?

chlorine is not a nutrient................macro or micro

According to the Jorge Cervantes grow bible, chlorine deficiency AND abundance look the same. Are you on city water? When you fill up our reservoir stick your head in, does it smell like a public pool? Maybe look into getting a smallboy filtration system to get that excess chlorine outta there?

have you done a flush at all? Try doing a flush every 4 weeks of plain water or half ratio nutes.

also, make sure your temps are ok. That leaf fringe can indicate heat stress.

Thanks for weighing in. No, the water does not smell like chlorine. I change the res every two weeks, and just changed this weekend. Temps, both tent and water, are good. Here are two more pix from just now:


Again, this is something that started sometime after 10pm last night. It's happening only on the upper leaves, on the node right below the top node. Before this happened, the plant was drinking 3 to 4 litres a day. Now it's drinking a lot less. I might add 1 litre later, but maybe not. Lower leaves and the highest leaves are normal. All these, leaves, however, are turning this bronze color and dying at the edges.

Still looking for help -- diagnosis and a solution. Thanks!

Thanks...it's still mentioned in the thread, which is how I saw it. Any ideas about what the problem with this plant is?

could be P lock-out/def. for sure. check ph.

Ok, the ph recently has been hard to keep down. Since apparently phosphorus lockout can happen at 5.8, I'm going to try to keep her closer to 5.6 for a couple of days and see what happens. The lack of drinking seems odd, but maybe that's part of it. Thanks!

Id have to agree with the bear.Still think it hasnt recovered from the cal mag lockout.Id run some Florakleen for 24hrs then adjust nutes and ph.

Okay! Consensus is leftover issues. Will get Florakleen and follow the prescription. Thanks a million -- woof, caring for these babies can be stressful! Overall they look so spectacular, it would be a shame to lose them along the way...I really appreciate your coming to the thread, Beech!
