Well after a quick google search, your right is a HPS... made with PIA technologies (PIA makes some awesome fog lights)

So my fairly educated guess would be that it is an average HPS bulb, not a cheapo but not a hortilux.....

Yes, that light will actually do wonder's...

it is a decent HPS!

but put the bulb a little closer to the plant than you would a good HPS!

but yes, it will work good!

4got to ask,its a real newbie quetion,but i had a 400whps but cud'nt use it in the space i had,can i still use the 400w ballast??

what are you going to use the ballast for?

I don't think it too safe to use a 400w ballast for anything other than a 400w bulb.... i say this because you said you have a 250w bulb and then you ask about using the 400w ballast. Would you really want almost double the wattage going through something made for half that much power?

but if you talking about using the ballast w/ a different reflector it'll work just fine, just use the right bulb!

i was told u cud use it,glad i checked 1st,do i need a new ballast for the 250w or is there any other safe way of hooking it up?

i don't believe there is any "safe" way to put 400watts through a 250watt bulb.....you would have to retard your ballast some how and make it only put out 250w of power to the bulb.....
