Is this GG4 - first time grow

Hi, ordered some GG4 from True North supplier Blimburn seeds.
My first time growing in about 20 years and using DWC so it's all new to what I was used to.
3rd week of veg and I am confused to how bushy my plant is and the leaf look and structure. I think it's way too bushy so I moved my light (Spider LED) 20200410_131814.jpgup to 22 inches

So basically is this GG4 and what's up with the look of it.

Well you are growing dwc and that as I'm sure you are aware feeds it very effectively. So your leaves are going to grow larger. I've grown GG and GGx the purps and had very broad early leaves just like that in just soil. Just a healthy plant growing to be as big as it can.

For sure but the leaves look much broader than I've seen from other photos or vids.
GG4 or "Original Glue" is a clone only. Seeds from a selfed clone will show a variety of traits (including broad leaves).

S1 seeds from Gorilla Glue 4 can be found from a number of seed makers and while some phenos might be as good as the original, none will be an exact replica of the mother so its kinda pointless to go by other people vids and pics of her.

Your plant looks good. Just keep her healthy and keep plugging along.

Thanks for the responses. Wasn't expecting a different look, at least somewhat. I've read it's more a sativa makeup, if only slightly more so. Don't I wish I could get a clipping of the original gg, though here in Eastern Canada i doubt anybody has a clone! I'm feeling confident in the grow so far and will update as I go. I'm glad to be back at it, times have certainly changed since I done it decades ago.

Your plant does look healthy, and I love a nice stocky plant. Usually indica heavy crosses. But if that is GG4, this cut I have been working for 5 years is a fake. The pic they show at strainly appears to be GG4. The traits that will help you identify GG4 in veg are.

purple or red pistiols (fan leaf stems)

Twisting and crinkling leafs throughout its life.

wild Sativa like growth if not trained

that’s is what every GG4 cut I have taken, including others I have seen here and compared notes. I am in Detroit if you ever plan on being down this way I’d be happy to share a cut. Just traded 6 - 4’ plants for 10 hortilux Super HPSbulbs and I am moving in different direction but I will always keep a mother of the GG4 as it is the best I have found for my pain.

Thanks instg8ter, like the looks of those - bad-ass! That's more of what I was expecting (hoping) to see during this grow. I'll stick it out see what comes of it. Appreciate the offer.

Yeah - I'm an *ahem* older grower who has been astonished at how bushy my plants have grown this first grow compared to how they did just 12 years ago - the new LED lights are just so powerful without all the heat - the plants look great! Good job so far!

And I think it is hard to gauge the plant strain until it is further into veg - the early leaves always look fat and short to me until you hit 4 or 5 weeks and they start to hit full length and number of blades. Just my 2 cents.

Never know, I have a bag seed purple Thai from dispensary weed. Nicest plant I have ever grown, perfectly symmetrical. Can’t wait for it to bud. And it looked like yours when young. So grow it out to the best of your ability. Listen to what the guys on here say. And Fire (roll) it up...

Ya never know. Your plant might turn out to be something better than the original. After all, GG4 was an accidental cross, some say its technically from "bag seed".

If by chance it doesn't live up to your expectations, and you're still on the hunt, start another thread and post that your searching for GG4. You'll get some great recommendations for reputable seedbanks and breeders that carry GG4 S1, BX, and even some F1 crosses. Or, you could try to get a cutting? GG4 is everywhere now. Just takes a little a leg work.

Has a gg4 looking leaf .... I’m growing out zookies at the moment so I’m seeing its influence... seeds will always have wider leaves so it’s hard to compare it too a numbered clone pheno ... should be good tho .
