Good point. There's a couple good reasons to work ot. Job requires it at times. There's an opportunity to make obscene wads of cash. The work around is to change withholding allowances on the w-4. More cash, less tax. Caveat is to change it back to normal withholding so tax liability doesn't bite. Personally I try to look at earnings, withholding and upcoming tax liability in the last quarter and adjust accordingly. No tax due and no refund. Never plays out perfect of course but there are no surprises that way.

exxon paid no taxes and got a check for $156 million from the federal government in 2009, actually.

so yeah, they got a check. or maybe a direct deposit. i don't run oil companies, so i'm not sure how it works.

Government doesn't send me checks for my losses, they pay me NOT TO GROW certain things. I sell my crops for profit at the elevator. I can't remember the last time I lost money on crops, my personal garden has had some setbacks growing exotic shit that isn't supposed to grow in these climes, but I don't blame Government for it and demand a check for rutabagas.

But the government doesn't pay ME not to grow stuff. Can I get them to send me a check every time I agree not to grow soy beans? How about them paying me not to grow pot? And this isn't a form of welfare?

All this seems to be mute. The original post was that it is reaching or has reached the point where more people are taking from the system than are contributing. Why should I continue working overtime, trying to pay my own way when there's people calling my ilk 'wage slaves' at YouTube, taunting me to go to work so I can pay for their Obama phones, their Obama bucks? Why don't I get smart like them? If I can figure out how to transition from one job when my department was wiped out, and get another job that actually pays better, shouldn't I be able to get on welfare, food stamps, Medicare, Medicaid, and no, I don't know the difference, but I'll find out, Disability, unemployment? I get that job with better pay, that's like swallowing lye every day, to take care of my wife and kids, but I have less money, and it doesn't go as far. You want to take Exxon off welfare? I don't know how that works, but cut them off at the knees. Gas will go through the roof, because for all intents and purposes that corporate welfare subsidizes the price, but go ahead, I can't afford to repair the transmission in my son's car, so I'm taking the bus to that better paying job. You want to take the farmers off subsidies? They passed some law in the Ag World that set billions aside for Black Farmers that have been screwed over the decades, and then turn around and tell Black people to grow some plants on their window sills to qualify.
