Sometimes it is striking when you stop to think that most of the people around you believe in something so absurd as god. Some of the ways they defend those beliefs and the lack of even the slightest critical thought does sometimes lead one to believe they are retarded. In the marketplace of ideas, especially stoned ones, we are bound to hit upon offensive concepts from time to time.
Further observation reveals that people become superstitious when they feel powerless. The less control a person has over a situation, the more superstitious they tend to be. Athletes whos sport depends on skill have far less superstitious habits than those who depend more on luck. The thing any of us has the least control over is our death, so it makes sense that we would tend to be stubbornly superstitious about it.
My mother would tell you that skeptics can be just as annoying and, in her opinion, pointless. She is just as tired of hearing about critical thinking as I am about religious dogma. So I think the overall lesson should be tolerance. But goddamn, it's hard to tolerate ignorance.
Heisenberg, I have read many of your posts. You strike me as a very intelligent person.
Your posts are always quite eloquently written, be it though our beliefs are quite different.
Tolerance is the answer, the same way I have tolerance to what I percieve as your "ignorance". Respectfully stated.
Myself I have quite a bit of schooling and graduated at the top of my class, so I do not count myself as ignorant.
Now I am a Christian.
It took me many of years to reach this state though. Vast amounts of research.
I finally came to the conclusion that it takes more faith not to believe than to believe.
Please read, and maybe you already have, "A Case For Christ".
Oh and yes by the way I also believe in Evolution.
Thank you for your time.
