I try my best to not "hijack" threads, so I thought I'd start a new one to discuss the..."Israel Situation" in an effort to not detract from the "Worst Presidents" thread in respect to the thread starter. It seems as if their are some strong opinions regarding this issue, and rightfully so.
I was once a staunch supporter of Israel and our support of Israel. My opinion(s) have changed over the years though. Many strong opinions run rampant that the source of all the problems in the Middle East stem from the US support of Israel...BUT!...My opinion has changed as to the source of many of the problems.
I still support the Israeli taking of the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Golan Heights as they won it fair and square when Egypt et. al. thought they'd run the fuckers into the sea...Let that be a lesson...All's fair in Love and War mutherfuckers. Don't pick a fucking fight unless you know you can school the other side.
However, this whole conflict started long before the US was even a global power. Britain and France planned for Israel after the fall of the Ottoman Empire way back in 1916. Sykes-Picot anybody? Balfour Declaration?

Leon Uris' "Exodus" is a good read about the birth of Israel as well. Good reading.

Don't confuse my statements as being pro-Israeli, because you'd be wrong. I believe we, as the US, should withdraw our supprot of Israel and let them stand on their own. This is just a thread to discuss the creation of the state of Israel, the ramifications thereof and the fundamental beginnings of the nation. I believe we (the US) just got caught holding the proverbial bag and not knowing what to do with it, kept supporting the nation. The Balfour Declaration of 1917 (dated November 2, 1917) was a classified formal statement of policy by the British government on the partitioning of the Ottoman Empire in the aftermath of World War I.
