It's finally time for me to quit reading and just grow!!!

Hi y'all!!! I've been reading for 8 months, planning & plotting my new hobby. I know a lot of my questions have been answered a million times on this site, but I get to reading threads and next thing I'm doing is munchen out, so it's time to get to work. Here is a background for those that care, and others, o'well. I'm a closet toker, wifey, & five kids have no clue. With that being said my grow has to be at another place, so I rented a very small 1 bedroom house in the suburbs. I get the keys Friday. My first step will be cleaning the bedroom, and then I'm shopping. I've decided on using soil, since ill only be able to visit it once a day, and be there for a couple of hours a day. I've read a lot of people using tents, but I assume they do because of the discreetness of them, and because its already set up (ventilation, and other things) What I'm thinking of doing is building a room within the room. Is that too much?? Also since this is my first grow and I know I'll be doing a bigger one down the line I'm buying 2 1000 watters with the lids that have the glass and vents on it to keep it cool. Couple of questions here, how much will the electric bill be with the 2 lights, and how many plants can I do with the 2 1000 watt HID w/cooling hood??? I'm looking for quality and quantity in this operation. I have access to some killer clones (don't know the strand, & I also bought some seeds but I forget what I got, but I remember it was a high thc and a high yield strand) regardless I need to recoup the money for the property & this equipment I'm getting. Also I've looked into SOG method and that seems awesome, but from what I'm reading it 1 plant per 1 light- T/F??? So this will be our journey, from start, literally getting the keys,to finish, putting my oldest through college... Couple of things I'm worried about 1) surge in electricity from previous renters 2) even though its a single family house, it's in the suburbs so smell 3) quantity & quality 4) amount of time per day 5) room size I'm guessing is 10 feet wide by 12 feet long by 7.5 feet high-- 2 1000 watt HID --- how many plants??? Lets get it in and make this a memorable trip!!! Thanks in advance!!

Welcome, congratulations and good luck. There is a ton of info both good and bad so beware and the more you learn the science the easier it is to navigate. Anyway, tents are easy and clean, no major construction. The tendency is to expand and get too far ahead, manage your time as well as your expectations initially. Keep notes, get a white board, and keep it as simple as possible while you do the first run....you need time to study. Electricity bills will rise a bit, but you don't live there using the appliances so there is that. Buy an air scrubber and smell is no big thing. Quantity and quality is the goal and to make this happen; genetics, technical expertise, troubleshooting, nutrients, the environment and more all need to be in harmony with the plants needs. Tents have less vertical clearance so smaller plants and more of them make the most sense in this situation. It would be wise to seek the genetics, hang the lights, establish control of the temperature, clean like hell, and get started on what you can control. There is a general consensus that this is easier than it really is. Just be pragmatic, studious, and most of all care about them beyond a commodity. Before too long I am sure your garden will be singing. Get to work!!!

I dont want to rain on your parade.......but I think your gonna find out that you've bitten off more than you can chew
For your first grow. That is alot to deal with your first time out.....a remote location, heat, smell, security you can read all you want but there is nothing like expierence and I know you need to start somewhere to gain expierence but I think you need to dial it back a bit to make it easier for yourself.........but it all boils down to what your comfortable trying and if you feel at ease trying it that way.... go for it
Good luck to you!

85 % Fail or Bail in the end , take the time and start slow and learn with hands on experience as the books and notes online are often very misleading due to the variables that we all encounter and face in this field .. You will soon see what I mean and it will make more sense ! Best of Karma to you

Best way to learn how to grow good smoke is to just get your hand dirty and do it. After your 2-4 grow you will pretty much toss most of what your read out the door and go with your own feel. My biggest tips to any new grower is to spend the money the first time and get the correct equipment, if not you first grow will suck yield will be low and you will either have to spend more money to do it right or you will give up.

Well, you do have a ambitious plan, so first step, CHECK!
Plants and how many under fixtures... How big are you growing them, [also what type of grow-method] that will determine how many plants under fixtures...
If you have not checked out Uncle Ben's Topping thread: https://www.rollitup.org/advanced-marijuana-cultivation/151706-uncle-bens-topping-technique-get.html
I have one plant going this way, and I like what I am seeing, shorter plant, with many big colas...
Since you are 'only' running the lights and fans and such, I figure there will be no red flags on power use...don't worry there...for now...
There are a bunch of DIY filters here at RIU, for smell, build up one of them... cheap, and work... I'd also buy some ONA Gel and put some just outside of grow room...
Water and Ferts/nutes do not have to be done everyday, so some days you will be there for an hour, and some days, you will just be there for a few minutes...number of plants will determine time...
How many Plants is the question-how many will fit under lights? With LST you can fit more, so that is all up to you... 4 good size, 10 small plants...per light...

You have bitten off a lot... but I think you can chew it.... Why Not!
Now the part about the wifey not knowing... When you are spending all this 'extra' time of yours away from home, and not with wifey and kids, you know your wife will think it's another woman, and not MJ... Just saying... good luck with that....
-----
Question for you:
Size of Electrical 'Main' breaker on Meter/Main panel on your grow house...
List Existing Appliances that used electric [range? FAU? Dryer? AC?] that you wont now be using...
I assume you know some about electric, plumbing, and building... Any thing Electric just ask me, we can make this work...
Good Luck man... On everything....

Oh yea, and one more thing:

Either bug bomb the whole house Now before you move in...
Or pull up bedroom/growroom carpet...
Flees/knats/etc could be hiding in carpet ready to hatch when you turn the big lights on...
Keep Neem Oil handy, and some H2O2 ready to spray the new found bugs...

Thank you to all so far. It is a lot to chew, but the motto I've lived by my entire life is "Go Big, or Go Home!" I plan on unplugging the fridge, range, dryer, and all other appliances. Security was a big part of the decision, and that's why I hit the "burbs" up instead of a cheaper place in the hood. Time away also had to be figure in, so I am welcoming my brother in on this investment, so now we will be splitting cost and time. The biggest factor of this is that we have just been smokers all our life, and never introduced to the green thumb. Bug Bombing is a great ideal that never one time crossed my mind, so thank you, thank you, thank you!!! Busy week with the fam this week, but Monday we will be cleaning, and now pulling carpet and bombing. I've read a lot about flat white paint for the walls?? If that's a good thing to do that will also be done on Monday. Just so it's on her again so far I've decided soil, 2 1000 watts HID, most defiantly a carbon scrubber, a window unit A/C (no central air). Also just did a goggle map search and the way the trees are around the house it hides the house from the view of above. It's a corner lot and the backside is a double lot, and then there is a tree line to separate the side neighbor. I didn't get a chance to see the breaker box, but all meters are outside, and the mailbox is on the street. I'm kinda all over the place here, but I'm just really excited to get going on this, so I apologize for the randomness. Once again thank you all for the suggestions so far, and please keep them coming!!!

Bug bomb up in the attic also if it has one...

I understand you will be not using existing power, HOWEVER, what if this one bedroom house has a 50 amp/ 2 wire drop from power pole, and you are limited to single phase 110 vac, 50 amps? then what would be your electric plan ?
Before you add all the power needs, you must make sure this lil one bed room house is up for it !
Just giving you a deal breaker... or a size limiter...
If you have a 50-100 amp panel being fed with a 3 wire single phase drop, you will have enough....
Why I ask....
---
The house I live in, is small, built in 1905-1906... When Electric came to this town [way back in time] they put in a 60 amp 2 wire 110vac drop from pole... 60 amps doesn't go that far, and I am limited... without asking power company for a new 100 amp /3 wire [so I can add 220vac] drop .... So I have a power use limit.

Hey Sand, WHOA... I guess that should have been a step I took before signing a year lease... I do have a friend that's into the electric, so I guess I need to add another to my list- myself, brother, & 1 electrician friend. I thought growing was a difficult subject, DAMMNNNNN..!!?? Ok, I'll get this guy to come over, & I've checked a couple of buddies set-ups and a few of them have the units hooked right into the breaker box it looked like. I was told this is one of the most important steps, so I will be taking my time through this process because I can't afford city workers to be at this property!!! Sand I'm copying and pasting your entire last thread to let him look at, any tips of the trade for this part, ELECTRICAL WORK??? Thanks for the tip on that, but once again this step I can not do trials & errors on, so please everyone speak the truth about the wires...

Read through this also:

https://www.rollitup.org/newbie-central/607986-electric-questions-maybe-will-help.html

If you/your brother understand Electrical, you may be able to follow along this thread I posted on getting a dedicated circuit in your little house...
You need to at least separate your lights on separate circuits...
Example of good clean circuits:

Dishwasher

GFI in Kitchen

Garbage disposal

Laundry area

Good luck man, I'm here if ya need a second opinion on your electric...

Good Luck !

Sounds like its going to be a blast man, what kind of system are you running them in dirt or hydro or have you decided yet?

Hey Ninja. I'm going with dirt. I decided on that because the grow I've set up is in a rental property, the reading I've done says to my understanding could go wrong and needs adjustments ASAP. Ill will be at the site once a day, & will have up to a couple of hours a day to devote to the babies. Also it's my first grow ever, and really just need to see them grow to get an understanding of the process. Anything ya got for me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

How close is your closest neighbors house from yours.. just wondering, if they will come over, you need a back story...
You and your bro, are selling land in ...
This sounds like fun...
Oh what a tangled web we weave... when we first pratice to grow dope....

Hey Sand. It's a corner lot, so the main road has a thick tree line that separates the neighbor & myself, and the side street, the house sits on a double lot. So it goes my house, empty lot, another small tree line then house. With you mentioning the neighbors coming over I'm going to be proactive and go introduce myself and provide a backstory. I'm glad y'all think of some of these things, because it was not even thought about. Thanks so much again.

Ya you and your brother has to remember the same line....
Haaaaaaaaaaaa
Keep us informed...
Maybe you could be 'Mormans on a visiting Mission' that would keep the neighbors away....
"Hi, our names are Hans and Fronze and we ar herr fer our Morman Mission, is there any reading materials you'd like us to pick up for you?"
Or you could be undercover DEA...
"Yes mame, we are under cover, if you see any thing suspetious, rounds here..."

Im noobish myself and i went the opposite way. Started with hydro on my first grow and since i didnt want to buy a water chiller i went to dirt for my second. Its going pretty good like my last one but dude theres some real talented guys adding to your thread right now. Ill add what i can when i can but im probably better at emotional support if these guys stick around. Ive also never done sog before. But if i end up the only one subbed well do alright bro, after all i got ninja reflexes. Pot snob really knows his stuff though, i hope he subbs. :):):)

Hey Sand I'm at the breaker box. It has 7 fuses. 3-30 & 4-20 and then at the bottom it says main principal it has a 100 on it. So do I have enough for 2 1000 watts HID...
