maybe he didnt make such a hype about them, because there are not so special like you told here. According to cree pct, the new vero 29 should be even a bit better. But maybe the reallity looks different.

240lm/w is for real but nice try why you so bitter? Do you have the info on these cobs? Or you here to to talk trash?

i thought there is coming something real special according to your posts, but now im a bit disappointed.
it is DB bin? if yes, like i said according to cree PCT they seems not so mega killer

Supra did the calculations and you know the PCT isn't correct it's off a bit

Any proof here? I keep seeing people say to drive COBs @ 5-10w for 65-70% efficiency but when we finally get any sort of sphere data the numbers are far lower than I thought. @23.453w we're seeing a whopping 52.5% radiant efficiency, when some of our measurements (read: guesstimations now) said we'd be hitting over 64% efficiency.

I'm having a hard time seeing us reaching 70% efficiency at half the wattage and one higher bin, even if it almost matches Vero 29C.

It actually seems about right, people are just overly optimistic about their junction temp.
With a Tj of 85 celcius, the Cree calculator gives about the same lm/w as the sphere test.

With a junction temp of 40 degrees celcius it's 1.10 times as efficient (as one at 85 degrees celcius).

Also case temp =! junction temp.

The people who are saying it'd be 64% efficient are assuming a 25 degrees celcius junction temp and no driver losses.
And people may have been assuming the maximum amount of Flux in the bin and not the minimum amount.

Now I wish they'd included junction temps in the sphere tests (only ambient @ 25.1c). Not sure how these sphere tests work but something tells me they do a few quick pulses so I don't think the junction temps are that big of a factor in the testing environment. Could be wrong though. Junction temps and driver losses would explain a lot, but I still don't see them hitting 70% efficiency.

Guess we'll have to wait until people actually start putting an integrating sphere to work around here....... It's pretty frustrating because I've been waiting on sphere data from people saying months ago that they "have one and it'll only be a few weeks until testing," meanwhile I'm still figuring whether I should buy 3 1212's and drive them @ ~16w a piece or buy one Vero 29C, drive it at 50w and be done with the whole thing.

Defiantly wanna see sphere results cxm-32 gen3 vs cree cxb3590 db that would be interesting.But should we compare a 36v to a 36v like vero d.
