jar curing help

Yes you want to air them out. Many people have different formulas as far as how often to open them and for how long.I just open them up about 2-3 times a day for about 30 min. each time. Also, I unpack and repack the jars every 2-3 days for the first week or two so all the buds get even treatment and to avoid wet spots and mold.

took me three years to get it right. i dry the bud until the stem is spongy and the outer bud is crisp. then i seal it in a jar. then i start by opening it overnight. i crack the jar open but leave the lid on it. it stays open about a 1/2 inch. leaves a small gap to breathe overnight. then i seal it in the morning. i do this for a week or 2.

That's the part I always second guess myself at- when to put them into the jars...Some folks say when the buds are dry and the stems snap- my stems never snap completely they always bend a little too.If I kept them in the closet until the stems snapped my buds would be way too over dry.

i keep the stems spongy. this is moisture. when it gets sealed the moisture in the stem "wicks" thru the bud, curing it. this is how i understand it.

good info FDD. what do you do to get your buds to the "spongy" stem stage? just let them hang upside down in a dark place, like a closet, or do you put them right from the plant in a paper bag till that point?

all very good stuff. i agree with all/most. pleased to see jar and style - it's what i had in mind. i'm looking to about 3 months storage (max - i think) so i guess once the medium is introduced and cured for a week or so, one can leave it sealed till 'the day'?

I just hang till the buds feel bone dry, but the stem doesn't fully snap yet.

Then I trim the buds off their inital branches, and place them into paper-bags(like grade-school lunch bags).

I burp the bags once a day fer a half hour. I continue doing this till I notice the grass smell being overpowered by the buds fragrance(i.e. it begins to smell more skunky or fruity than like grass).

Then I place into mason jars. I burp them fer 5 minutes a day fer a week. I then seal the jars fer the long-term cure, but still look at the buds daily and open once a week fer a quick smell to ensure there's no mold.

thats the way....after a while it comes to you How the bud cures in the masonjar...it seems to comunicate it's needs. You donot want the bud to completely dry.this is true....overdrying will take away the magic cure brings. But the bud needs to breathe....be patient and the GOD of cure will reward you,my son.....or my garden mother...Be now observant of thy buds, reward will BLOW YOU AWAY....

I also think smell is a very good indicator when curing and drying that many people don't mention

2 quick ones..How tight do i pack em in the jars, just place em in or pack it a little? and it's hot today and gonna reap what I have sown :bigjoint:do you think I should water a couple hours before to leave some extra moisture in it for a longer possibly better cure or am just being a stoned dumbass and added moisture is a bad thing?

i don't "pack mine". i just make sure all the empty spaces are filled in with smaller buds. then i leave a little room up top. i like to be able to roll my jars and see the bud move.
