Jiffy pellets - the definitive verdict?

Ive just transfered my plants to soil and the pucks definatly make things easy as to not touch the plant.

Say you planted directly into the peat pellets and several of them did not germinate, if I were to dig out the dud seeds and rehydrate the pellets, would they be reuseable do you think?

glad you made this thread, i was about to do the same for my LR2 grow.

but my question is, can you use a jiffy plug as a medium in a hydroponic system? meaning can i grow a seed in it , than stick it in a netpot with claypellets in a hydro setup ?

is this possible because of the soil part of jiffy , will it clog anything up ?

would the jiffy pucks work for cloning? i couldnt find any rockwool cubes and my hydro store was all sold out of them so i got the jiffy pucks instead hoping they will work for the cuttings

If you had a drip system for your hydro that drained or dripped back into your res, I'd say that the Jiffy mud would get into the res and could clog your pump unless you had a pump filter bag or the particles were too small once mixed in to your solution. I have seen pump filter bags at various online hydro stores.

Just the same as ordinary soil, rockwool or Root Cubes. Make sure that you soak them in PH'd solution with a little rooting solution added. Let them absorb as much water as they can and then drain off the rest. Insert your clones just like you would in rockwool.

Peat pellets works well for cloning. I hear/read people speak of cloning percentages of 90 and 95% success rate. I get a 100% success rate cloning app. 25, and I use different peat pellets, a covered and ventilated box (such as a germinating tray w/dome, or clear tupperware type with holes added). I mist several times a day (and I mean every hour or so) which I believe is primarily responsible for my success. Happy growing, and many blessings.:joint: :peace:

ok but can you use the jiffy plug in a netpot with claypellets , attached to one of those bubble hydro machine. ( the kind made from rubbermaid totes) ?

does this sound possible as a good medium for this setup ?

thanks to all

ok thanx... um lol where do you take your cuttings from on your plant??? this is my first time cloning
I usually clip mine from the bottom. Those shoots will not amount to much at harvest, and removing them will force added growth in the rest of the buds. This is just one benefit. As you get into flowering, you will find many little shoots popping out at the bottom. Those make good clones. :peace:

ive read that you need a cutting that has more than one branch, wat i mean is my plant has one main stem and then has 2 branches on every lvl/node (watever u wanna call it) and then 1 leaf comes off that branch and thats its. i would post a pic but i dont have my SD card to transfer it to my pc

i would answer you but i dont know! i would think it would work but it might make your water a lil brown if you have a drip system from the top

thanx that actually helps me somewhat , no the system is not a drip.

The water level will just touch the bottom of the netpot , so i guess it wont create a runoff then thanx

I have used Jiffy pots with limited success in the past, sometimes it doesn't seem like the roots want to break throught he pot.

Rapid Rooter cubes work amazingly well though, such a high success rate on all my plants. Literally at least 9 out of every 10 seeds I put in those sprout, I am using one of those dome things to keep humidity too though.

HH, it would probably work if you filtered out the particles in the water before it goes thru the pump. Personally I think coco or rock wool would be better for hydro.
