I just learned Purple Haze on my guitar and I'm working on Foxy Lady. I've never played any Hendrix before, but it's so fun and intricate. It's opened my eyes up to a whole new way of playing guitar. I feel reborn.
I feel ya Dude. Mitch Mitchell is pretty awesome. But after listening to bold as love, are you experienced, and electric ladyland over and over for years I found my brother's copy of Band of Gypsies. I don't know how I called myself a hendrix fan and had never heard the album. It was just some fresh shit that I loved. I liked Machine Gun a lot off of there. The voodoo child double disc album was pretty good too with the live recordings and such. The best thing you'll find about Hendrixs' playing is that he plays rhythm, melody and lead at the same time in many of his songs (bold as love, little wing, wind cries mary). He is my favorite guitar player and I have learned almost his entire 'experience' repertoire.
And Yeah, as good as Buddy Miles is (and he is) he doesn't hold a candle to Mitch Mitchell, the all-time greatest from jazz-to-rock percussionist.
