I found some of these, in my garage.. they're pretty old, but they actually look like they might work well for veg.

Jobe's Houseplant Spikes for Beautiful Houseplants are specially designed to provide your green houseplants with a continuous supply of the nutrients they need to look their best.

-Greenhouse-tested formula for lush, green growth

-Feeds gently and continuously for up to 60 days

-Can't wash through, like liquid plant foods

DIRECTIONS: For best results, insert new spikes every 60 days (luckily, I won't even need to!). Just push each spike into the soil around the plant, halfway between the stem and the edge of the pot, until the spike is just below the surface. The nutrients are gradually released to the plant's roots, safely and continuously, every day.

This sounds like something even -I- couldn't fuck up!

Weed is somewhat of an acid loving plant, thus the ph 0f 5.5 - 6 (hydro) 6-6.5 soil, however I still would not use them as they are time released, so you have no control of what it gets when. If you can't get good nutes, for veg I recommend the Alaska fish emulsion (walmart, home depot, lowes), which is 5-1-1 I believe, so it will work for veg, but you will need to find something different for flower.

As far as ph, go to the aquarium section of wally world and get a ph test kit, a little vile and some drops for about $4. Test your water before you water, and test your runoff water after (the water in your drip pan) to test the soil ph.
