Just a few questions i need answered please.

Ok I'm a first time grower. Just growing 1 plant for myself out back. I know it wasnt the smartest idea to plant in January but i found a seed in some bud i got about a week ago and decided why not. It's germinated and i planted it 3 days ago and seems to be growing just fine but where I live at the moment there a cold front coming in (other than this 1 front it is ALWAYS warm or burning up) and i got a light bulb from my gf which is a 120v 60hz cfl. I was wondering if I can use this until the cold air is gone so my plant doesn't go into "shock".

Yea I was going to keep it inside until the front is completely gone (temp is back to at least 70 might take a few days actually) I just want to make sure the light is ok to use on such a young plant.

Im a first time parent also and I would like to know whats a good cost effective way to grow "purple Kush". I have a room that holds heat well. It has a water fixture where i can raise the humidity when needed. I spent about 450 for supplies including seeds.

What type of nutrients should i get to start off with? I plan on growing 12 plants in 5 gallon buckets.
I am going to use heaters and (6) 100w bulbs and maybe 1 400w hps. Ive been lokking at films by jorge C.

Any tips on this strain would help, TY

Def get some premium potting soil like fox farms or roots organic for ease of use and reliability. Not to mention a pH meter for whatever nutrients you do decide to go with. Fox Farms is popular, Roots Organic has a nice big lineup. But honestly, you could get away with any generic 3-part nutrient system as long as it has the right stuff. Spending more isn't always better in nutrients. And don't grow so many damn plants at once, maybe 5-10 max with the amount of light you're talking about. One 400W HPS would be good for 4-5 plants IMHO at the most, depending on how long you vegetate.

one more question. How high should i put the light above my plant? and should i put it in something like a box or just leave it out in the open until i put it back outside?

Those nutes are classic, but again when you use them make absolute sure you're pHing the water to 6.8 after adding the nutes to a gallon jug or whatever you're using. It's so important it's not even funny, nothing worse than seeing a plan go to hell over pH in flower. The lime buffers in the soil will wear out long before your harvest. Now, some people recommend putting more lime in the soil to begin with for that reason, but if you can help it and pH it then it shouldn't be a problem to begin with.

And the soil, please god do not use that stuff if you can help it. Look up Fox Farm's Ocean Forest Soil. I KNOW there's a place near you or a hydroponics shop which will have it (look up HTGsupply, they have scandalous deals); this stuff will practically veg your plants if you go for a month only. It costs maybe 15-20 bucks for 3 cubic feet which is a lot of soil to work with. Depending on where you live it may be cheaper, I know west coast weed state California all the soil is like 5-10 cheaper than other places. And remember to get a lighter soil to start your seedlings in solo cups or something small like that. At a shop they'll sell Light Warrior by Fox Farms, or something like it. BioBizz light mix, etc. Reason being: The FFOF and even Roots Organic line up may be hot. I think Roots organic is a safer soil to work with; in other words it's a bit weaker than FFOF.

Course' if you already bought the soil supplies, you could make it work, but remember the miracle grow also has slow dissolving nutrients in it, so wait awhile before you begin any sort of liquid nutrients with it. I'm not sure how long it takes, but it advertises like 3-months or growth or whatever; which would be great for little annual flowers maybe, but I think after a month you'll probably need to supplement the soil.

CFLS can go 1-3" from the plant for best results. I don't think you'll need a box, unless you plan on doing 18/6 light schedule. You could probably get away with a 24 hour schedule so you don't have to worry about light leaks in the dark period. But once you put them outdoors, you'd be wise to leave them that way; moving them indoors might stress the plant out.

How many watts is the CFL bulb?

Ok, firstly I would like to suggest that 313native start your own thread so that both of you can get the atention and answers you deserve. Secondly, the best suggestion I can offer both of you is to read, study, plan, and act on your grows. Cannabis is a weed that wants to grow but it needs more thought than just soil, light, and watering. Please read the stickies on the forum and click the link on my signature. Humidity will be monitored with a meter for that (hot shower or bucket of hot water will be used to increase). The area usually hold at 50% humididty and 70 at temp. I installed an extra exhaust fan that ties in to the existing one. I will use an air bed pump with tubes connected to it to keep fresh air in the room. Ill be using a 400w hps fixture along with 4 100w flourescents.

Yep. Let the tap sit out 24-hrs to evaporate the chlorine, though. I still think 10 plants is a lot for 400w, but good luck.

keep it away from the windows if it gets cold. sometimes they rub against the cold glass and freeze + its generally colder near the Windows

I fyou're gunna keep it inside, just remember VENTILATION.. You HAVE to provide a breeze for it, to keep it fungus and mildew free. The only two options are a fan or an outside breeze if it makes it to the plant.

If the leaves don't vibrate then there's not enough ventilation.

And if you're using organic-based soil: The lighter and fluffier/spongier, the better. Heavy, sticky, muddy soil is a no no.

thanks for the answers guys and i plan on buying stronger CFLs but for now i found another light and wondering if i can use it... i googled but didnt get an answer heres what the light says on it. 120v-60hz 120ma 4200k 8w and on the side it says in parentheses 120v-70w max. could i use this or no?

btw im going to start a grow journel on friday (1 week of growth) on here and waytoomany so hopefully you guys can help if theres any problems. ( im sure there will be lol)
