Just a Girl Tryin' to Grow Some GDP and Cheese!

Hi all!

I guess we are about 3 1/2-4 weeks into flower now and the girls are looking good. They get kind of smashed up against the walls of the tent but that's just something to note for next time. I decided not to harvest pollen this time around, the plants just got far too big to manage the males, also I haven't been home much to take care of them or keep the males in check, so they got chucked. Looking forward to harvest!! I think these ladies are going to be fast finishers... already seeing orange pistils on 2 of the plants. I hope the buds explode in growth in the next week or two...

Thanks for looking! :leaf:

Looking nice! I'm vegging some GDP from Connoisseur genetics right now. It'll be interesting to see how they stack up

Lookin Lovely Dellamore! Just flipped my Grandoggy Purps (GDGP?) last night, should have a journal up soon. Pics taken, just need to find the damn camera cord... Still got Ken's GDP in it so should be somewhat similar to yours and GSP's. What's the stretch looking like on those now that they should be settled out? Mine is rather short at about 9 inches, so I don't expect much but I got a Bubblegummer from female seeds that looks like it's gonna run me out of room, so I gotta flip now.

The stretch is nothing at all, the plants including the 5 gal buckets aren't taller than 2 1/2 feet. But I did do a lot of LST for height control so I don't know what they'd be like grown out regularly. I agree with someone else I wouldn't mind seeing that Bubblegummer!

Sorry all of my pics are blown out by the grow light.. I will have some new pics in natural lighting on the next watering (about 2 days)!

Late to the party as usual, LOL, very nice grow.

..........snip.........

OK - Hopefully everyone can learn from my mistakes now. I made the stupidest mistake that almost cost me my grow. When LST'ing in the beginning I tied my string way too tight for my plants. ......snip....

Hopefully the males hurry up so I can get rid of them soon! Maybe some one can chime in and let me know how to preserve pollen? Like what temperature to store it at and for how long I can store it for?
I just wanted to say don't feel to bad. Looks like you and I started growing around the same time. I too thought I was over the stupid little things. I was wrong. I turned off my fan when I'm in there trimming for a long time. We had huge winds and our electricity went out. I forget the fans were off.

My Kosher Kush and ET Bubba 76 grew right onto my 1000 Watt HPS's reflector glass. With the fan on you can easily touch this but with the fan off the entire tops of these two scorched off and well down into the canopy, ugh! They look so ugly :( But they are alive and will be finishing soon. So I guess I won't turn my main fan off anymore.

As for the males yeah they grow really fast to be up before the girls. On my regular seeds now I suspect any of the really FAST growers could be boys I watch them for signs. I too bought a 2x4 tent to have a boys club! Too funny. Anyway my plans are to use that as the bachelor pad for open pollination. I also plan to then bag my male cut him at the trunk and hang him upside down and keep a fan blowing to keep the bag moving. So hopefully I'll be able to collect pollen, move it to an envelope with a silica sachet and store in a box in the fridge (won't that be a surprise to snack marauders LOL).

.....snip........
I've been using FFOF but to be honest I think there's way too much Nitrogen in it.....snip......
Have you ever thought about simply switching to soilless and trying that? It might be something to experiment with. If you do consider trying Sunshine Mix #4 Advanced (that's the coco based one). I'm considering trying an amended soil mix and trying soil for my first time too LOL! This is so much fun all this playing with a pay off at the end!

Oh and as for the low humidity I too grow in an area of very low humidity. I'm in the Mojave Desert. So we never get above 20%. But it's not been to terrible. Interesting that you hang your entire plant to dry. I got to much variation because my humidity was so low it would dry the small branches to dust before the inner were ready. So I cut the limbs off the live plant and trim each as I have time hang them and in roughly 24 hours they are jarred!

How do you cure?

.......snip....... Males are always the best looking...
Yeah isn't that always the truth! You said you trashed the males because they got to big to handle. You know I'm probably much older than you. But I'm finishing everything in 2 gallon pots and my large mothers finish up in 3 gallons. I'm not strong enough to pick up more. But what I found is I just take an extra clone and it gives me the yield I lost from the smaller easier to manage pots.

Your plants are gorgeous. You have done so nicely and I can't wait to hear your smoke report. Very nice grow.

Wow thank you so much for the reply Curious2Garden!! Thanks for tagging along... let's see if I can manage answering all your questions in one reply :p

Also I want to tell you, not to feel bad about burning the tops of those Kosher Kush! My last grow I had a Kandy Kush that lost the whole cola from the same thing. I was away and had a plant sitter who wasn't too experienced with any growing, and ultimately the cola got burned to a crisp when the light was never raised. By the time I got home there was no saving the cola, however I DID in the end, end up with 2 1/2 oz of dried bud when all was said and done. So here's to hoping that you get great results despite the mistake!

I do in the future want to start hydroponically growing. I notice that now as I've gotten more experienced I am able to get great results from 2 or 3 plants, instead of 6 plants in the same space like when I first started. Ultimately I'd like to have 1 or 2 massive plants that I can manage to get the same yield from, than 6 plants in my space. But my space is very limited right now, hopefully a situation that will very shortly change! I am in the market now for a new place to call home with extra space for plants ;-) (Any so-cal landlords reading my thread out there? haha). It is definitely time to experiment with soils, hopefully with a bigger space I'll be able to eliminate it completely... I hate the mess and dirt anyways!

My humidity is similar to yours in the Mojave.. in fact we aren't too far from each other. And with all this wind it's been terrible! My cats just rolling on the carpet are sparking with electricity. I hang the whole plant to dry because it encourages a slower dry time, which is what we should be trying to achieve being in a dry climate. People in more humid environments can dry for a week or so, us like you said they are dried to a crisp in 24 hours and then you get that terrible hay/trimmed grass smell. I find with hanging the whole plant, I am usually snipping up to be jarred in about 3 days and I was able to preserve the individual smells of certain strains. The overall cure was an incredible improvement after about 2 weeks in the jars... and even better a month after in the jars! I did also snip the buds off the whole plant after 3 days and put them in a brown paper bag for about 12 hours and then put them into the jars.. it just took that extra bit of moisture out. I always have a fan circulating where the buds are drying. About 3 grows ago, I lost an entire 7 oz crop to mold from drying improperly... I will NEVER do that again!!

I am lucky and my husband does the heavy lifting for me... I grow for the both of us anyways - I tend to the plants, he lifts them.. it works great! Haha. I upped this most recent grow to 5 gal containers because I really wanted to experiment with getting a better yield through training and container size. I should have chosen a higher yielding strain, but I'll be happy with whatever I get. I am used to finishing in 3 gallon pots too.. I guess we'll see if there's much of a difference. The plants are definitely more vigorous and much larger this time around. I don't have the space or means for cloning otherwise I would. Fingers crossed for a better set up on the next grow but I'm already getting really excited to sprout the next candidates!

Thanks a lot for tagging along, feel free to private message me or whatever if you want to get to know me a little better 8-)

Finally some updated photos for you all! I factored in a week or two of slow growth/flowering because of the stress that I put on these but it seems like they are going to be quick finishers. I should be trimming at some point next week. All of the plants appear to be around 75% milky, 25% clear. I feel like it all went by too quickly! You can see the purple colors start to come through. I thought I would be saying goodbye to the purple trait as my grow room is quite warm, but look at 'em now! And without further wait...

They look too pretty to chop. Hell, I'd take one if you couldn't even catch a buzz off it, it would make a great house plant!

Grandpapy, they are way too stinky for a house plant! Haha! The smell in this last week is unbelievable.

Very nice gdp pics there. I would say let her go longer then just 1 more week. She looks like she will put some extra weight and you are flushing right?
She still looks pretty green.

I agree, every day I'm seeing more bulking of the buds and maturing. I plan on starting a flush tomorrow, and that's when I'll go over the trichomes of the whole crop with my loupe.

Just got 2 more pretty bud pictures for you guys! I think I got too excited when I estimated trimming already. One plant, that suffered the most stress, is pretty much 90% cloudy, 5% clear and 5% amber trichomes. So I just put her in a different tent with a fan circulating for a few days of complete dark before the cut. The past few grows I've done this and I like the results. Hopefully I'll be able to start trimming her in a few days. The other two more vigorous ones have at least a week left under the light I think. I can't wait!! They seem to be getting more and more purple as the days go by, there's definitely some nice colors going on here despite my warm temps.

So here's just a little eye candy in the mean time :joint:
