Just getting started

Yo i had another thread but it was getting long, and not everyone there was using cfls and i wanted to ask some CFL people for their advice. i just got my grow box setup its two plastic bins and theres mylar-like material lining them and an aluminum hood ontop. i have 6 23 w 6500k CFL bulbs running, thinking of haveing 4 on top and two on each side maybe? im only growing one plant though. so is that too much light?

how close should the bulbs be from the soil, and what soil should i get. i have miracle grow plant food but no organic potting soil at the house. what organics soils should i get, i was at loews and they didnt seem to have alot of variety in terms of organics (there is 4 inches of snow on the ground, haha). does anyone know anything specific that they used to plant their seeds in? ive heard scotts organic potting mix is good but i cant find it.

if it matters im growing in a party cup.

ur lights are just fine for one plant .
i would suggest taking 2 of those 6500k and switching them to 2700k to get mix spectrum . as it will help simulate the sun light .

also , for flowering , just do the exact opposite , 4 x 2700k , 2x 6500k .

as for the height of the CFL's , usually CFL's would do best if they are hung 2-3 inches above the top of the plant . so if u can make those top CFL's move able , it would be best , it will make the plant not stretchy .
if u they are not move able , then about 2-4 feet would be fine . a bit stretchy but fine.

How many Lumens are you bulbs? How many sqft is the box?

the box is really small, but im only growing one plant for now. its maybe 3 square feet but its rectangular, so 2 feet wide. and maybe 2.5 feet tall, (its two plastic bins stacked). but i cant eventually make it taller if the plant grows that tall.

You almost HAVE to make cfls movable so you can keep them positioned close to foliage. That's why camp reflectors work well. Set up you space with places to clamp to in every location and you're set.

ok and is mg organix mixed with perilite... 3/4 mg 1/4 perilite good to start me seeds in? or what should i start them in. the only places i have to go to are home depot and loews.
