I just planted 5 seeds and im not sure if I should wait untill they pop through the soil or to start the 24/0 schedule now? and is it bad to use 400w mh right from the start or should i use cfls for a week or two. I looked through the faqs and couldn't find this exactly.

Personally, If they have not broken the surface of the soil, I dont see any reason to give them light. They are buried, they would not get the light anyways.

Mh is good and faster. Cfl cheaper and cooler room, with ability to keep close to reduce stretching. gl

you can wait until they break the surface. but you will want to get light on them ASAP after that happens, otherwise they will stretch like crazy. keep that MH at least 2 feet away from them for the first few days, gradually lowering it. if you aren't careful you'll burn them with the lights. it's a delicate balancing act for the first week or so. too far away and they'll stretch, too close and they'll burn.
