First Time Grower (day 16 from seed)

I have been finding rust spots and discoloration on the leaves and I’m not sure what to do about it. I noticed it 4 days ago and it has shown up more and more. I was told the seeds where “Kali Mist” I have cut the leaves off since they looked beyond the point of return and I did not want the plant wasting energy on the leaves. I am using:

100% pure aeroponic system with a 20 gallon res

2 large air stones with a 793 GPH air pump

1638 GPH constant flow pump

“Morsen 2400W LED Grow Light 2 Dimmer On Off Switch Full Spectrum” light. ~ 12 in above plants
20 on 4 Off timer

6” filtered air in and air out

Humboldts secrets Base A
Humboldts secrets Base B
Humboldts secrets Calmag and Iron
Humboldts secrets Golden Tree
Humboldts secrets Plant Enzymes
(Mixed according to feed chart for veg 1 to 700 PPM)

general hydroponics pH down to a pH of 5.00 right now allowed to fluctuate up to 6.00.

And I used a foliage spray ~5 days ago after turning the light off consisting of:
Bayer Neem Oil (1ml/L)
Nectar for the Gods Athenas Aminas (4ml/L)
Spray N Grow coco-wet (5ml/L)
Dyna Gro Pro-Tekt The Silicon Solution (2.5ml/l)
Natures Miracle Molecules Mr. Fulvic (1ml/l)
Technaflora Thrive Alive B-1 Green (2.5ml/L)
Technaflora Magical (2ml/l)
Technaflora Sugar Daddy (1ml/l)
(Mixed with tap water)

Water temps have been ~ 80 degrees F

Air temp ~85 F

Humidity ~ 45% using a diffuser (not enough room in tent for a humidifier)

FIMmed ~ 5 days ago since I need these plants to remain short and bushy. 4 plants in a 24”x24”x48” tent. (Kali Mist was only seeds I could get. I ideally want northern lights and LSD auto).

Plants started in a different aeroponic system under T5 HO grow lights using General Hydroponics part B to 700 ppm. PH of 5.50 allowed up to 6.00. I moved them into then new system 2 days ago. Humidity was ~35%, water temp ~80 F, air temp 75 F.

Upon relooking at the plants I see some purple now. So I feel like I have a phosphorus issue and originally burned the leaves with the foliage spray. I’d like to lower my water temp down but I don’t know a cheap way of doing that.

I added 60 Ml of A and B, 40 ML of tree trunk, and 5 Ml of golden tree to 20 gallons of water. Hoping it’s a deficiency and not nut burn

Water temps have been ~ 80 degrees F? optimal temperature is 63 to 72°F. Within this temperature range, the dissolved oxygen content is high and the temperature is warm enough to facilitate nutrient uptake , need to fix that I'd say n what else

I am attempting to come up with solutions to the res temp now. Seems to be the #1 problem right now. I am starting to add in ice/frozen water bottles and I am planning on getting a used mini fridge and running tubes through the fridge to cool the water (not trying to spend $400+ on a res chiller).

Wow! 4 plants in a 2’x2’. If it’s really Kali, you’re going to run out of head room in a 48” tall tent. I’d think about flipping them pretty soon.

It was not my ideal strain but I had the seeds so I decided to go with it. I was hoping to be able to get them to bush out some before flipping it. I heard a lot of negative things about HST at this size but I don’t know how else to get any kind of yield out of the plants in this small space otherwise. I was planning to flip at ~12”.

It’s an awesome strain! Just not for that environment. So you just happened to have some Kali Mist seed hanging around? Are they from Serious? Not exactly the easiest strain to come by. They look very Indica right now but they should grow out of that. Ok, so, say the res is 12” tall and the light at best hangs 6” from the top to the lens, plus bare minimum of 12“ lens to canopy. That leaves 18” for plant height. I think you’re going to be very unhappy if you flip at 12”.

I should be able to get the light mounted without any hang to open up a couple more inches. But overall I definitely don’t have enough space. Someone tried growing the Kali and they failed multiple times so they gave me the seeds (they failed to properly germinate them )

Why not put them in a tall tent, 3x3 or 4x4. That light is pulling 450 watts so that could stay the same.

I got the tent with the seeds for free so I just went with it. Ideally I would rather grow a shorter strain then increase the height of the tent. I am using gravity to feed my return water to the res. If I increase the height of the tent I would need to lower it the grown and add in a sump. I also don’t have a lot of space right now outside of the tent to expand into.

Day 21:
So they are starting to produce a light smell. It’s definitely sweet and fresh with citrus undertones. I’m assuming that’s good. I got water temps down to about 70 and they seemed to be doing a lot better. I implemented a diy water chiller but it isn’t running to its full potential yet. It seems to be able to maintain a temp but not lower a temp rn so I had to add ice back in this morning to get the temps back down. It appears to have a Cal/Mag lock out at higher temps (I think at least). I notice the purple discoloration in the stems at higher water temps.

I’ve noticed that each plant has some different shades of green on it. Dark green and bright green seem to be the trend for the most part ( assuming that it’s old vs new growth). But is the dark green too deep? And is the bright green to bright? Also, one plant has what appears to be washed out leaves, there is a comparison between what to me seems to be a healthy piece of leaf vs what I am concerned about.

The plant appears to have a very mangled look since I fimmed so young there is a large amount of young growth underneath the old growth. I was trying to tuck the larger leaves underneath the smaller newer leaves to allow light to touch every leaf. I also trimmed the edges of a few large upper leaves to allow light to penetrate down to the bottom. I am hoping to get some longer stems soon so that I can spread the plant out in a ScrOG. Since, this is suppose to be a tall growing sativa and I have such a small space I am hoping to be able to fill the 2x2 tent with vegetation that is under 12”. I don’t know if this is will be possible or not. My initial hope was to be able to yield 1.25 per plant. For a total of 5 Os in 4SQFt. I have 48” from floor to ceiling. With a 4 in light which I can flush mount to the ceiling and 14” in grow chamber. So I have 30” for the plants and the light’s clearance.

Lastly, from looking at the plants I’ve notice strong differences in structure. How do you determine differences in genotypes and phenotypes from differences imparted from enviromental factors? I would not be surprised if I had two completely different strains.
