Kelvin rating V lumens

how important is the kelvin rating in the source of the light could you do better or the same with less lumens less watts if you give the plant the perfect kelvin spectrum???

Lumens and wattage do go hand in hand but can vary a large amount between systems. The better the lighting kit, the better the lumens it will cast. Lumens have more to do with the design of the light than the wattage of the light itself. Some 600W
lights may give the same lumens as a 400W light.
You do not want to go less than 2500 Lumens, even for one plant. You want to get the best so you need to hit the 45000 mark or more. In general one light that casts 45000 lumens - taken from the cannabis grow bible by Greg Green
The spectrum is key, but so is the lumens...im thinking they are both equally important. you could grow good bud with either the perfect spectrum or with a ton of lumens...but u can only grow great bud with both imo.

I have to comment on this.
-The kelvin rating (known as kelvin temperature) is the scale of the light spectrum that lights emitt. For proper vegitation you need a 6500k. That is, considered by many, more important than the lumens output. For flowering it is more tricky. It is recommended to go with around 4500k. But, many more experianced growers recommend using both spectrums.
-As for the lumens, that varies. It is essential that you have the proper amount of lumens reaching your plant. If not they stretch and you get little buds spaced out. Now, if you are vegging many people use Metal Halide (6500k) which has a high lumen output, but due to heat you cannot get too close to the plant, which sometimes may cause stretching. Some people use T5s (I use them), while many contend that they are not strong enough (lumens output) they have the proper light spectrum (6500k) necessary to veg, you just need alot of them. When flowering comes majority reside with High Pressure Sodium (4500K), again I use T5s just different bulbs.
-From my own observations, my plants are small, bushey, and smelly. BUT, I agree with others that have seen my setup that I am not getting enough lumens. Thus it has taken me over three months to get two 17" plants.
-In conclusion I would find that proper lumens are just as important as a proper kalven temperature.
I hope I was of some assistance, and that I answered your question.

i could not agree more that is the very reason i love CFL's because you can adjust the kelvin rating and the lumens as you see fit.

i am growing one ak 47 right now and one polio strain they are both great producers and i am using a t5 set up with a hood bought from [email protected] well i bought both lights from him but need less to say they are doing just as good as my HPS i like to mix the light but for the most part i now use 2300 kelvin at 60,000 lumens and it more then enough
