Ken's GDP-1st clone grow, using stealth cab, hydro, LED's + T5's

Hello All,

Long time lurker, first time grower/poster. I'm having a ball with this new "hobby" And learning a shitload. Thank you all for sharing your knowledge ^5 And thanks for looking

I am growing 8 clones, in a "stealth" storage cabinet (no haters please). Using 180w of LED (2x UFO type 90w, with 3w leds) and 52w of T-5 side-lighting. It's a Rubbermaid DWC/drip hydro grow. With an auto adjusting PH set-up. So PH doesn't vary much. Almost always reads 5.80. The Rubbermaid has a little "chiller" built in. It keeps the water between 66-75. There is also a CO2 boost bucket, that feeds a 4" fan. The "box" runs about 15-18 degrees warmer than the room. So temps vary between 68/off to 85/on. Humidity is always really low. It's hard to keep it above 30%. Even with room "ambient" humidity above 50%. I am using a bowl of water, with an added fan blowing across it. Also using a wet sponge and 4-5 wet paper towels - moistened at least 1 time daily. Laid on the Rubbermaid's deck. To boost the humidity. The UFO LEDs had 2 positions. Raised. Which is about 4 feet from the Rubbermaid's deck. And Lowered. Which is a foot lower. So the lights have been @ around 34-36 inches or so, from the canopy. Until 3 days ago. When I modified this. The lights are now around 18" from the canopy

I got ahold of 8, Darkheart Nursery, Ken's GDP clones. :weed: The clones were about 6-8 inches tall, when purchased. They have been in the cabinet 4 weeks, this Friday. They spent like 5 hours after transplanting, under a T5. Then "boom" into the cabinet. After repeatedly attempting "cannaba-cide" on the girls :o They are not only still alive. But these little gals appear to be thriving. They are bushing out nicely. And considering what I have put them through. They are doing AMAZINGLY well :-) Even the one that looked totally dead (droopy ass, wilted purple leaves, with down-turned crispy sides and ends), for almost 2 weeks. Is coming around nicely (last pic). Unfortunately, the girls aren't doing much stretching. Maybe 4 inches, tops.

These gals have been through a lot of stress. They should literally drip resin if they make it to harvest...lol But again, almost beyond belief. They look pretty healthy. With fairly thick main stalks. I'm still not sure why they aren't stretching? Perhaps the major mistakes made, over the last month, had something to do with it? 8) Forgive me father for I have sinned........

Was it the lack of water (forgot to triple check drip heads)? And found 5 of them flat (and I do mean flat) on the deck, one morning.:-( Or, was it transplanting them into net pots that had too small root openings (for the already fat little roots, comin' outta the rockwool)? This "root bound" them for at least a week. Or, was it the low humidity/higher temp stress they have been exposed to, mentioned above? Or, was it the bout of nute burn they appear to be coming out of nicely? I overfed them, change before last. Trying to get some stretch. Or, was it the dozen, or so, leaves. That I so carelessly tore off of 7, of the 8, plants (those extra crispy nute burned ones)? That has caused them to be so short and bushy? Or, was did/does it have anything to do with the distance the 90w LED lights, were from the canopy? I even turned off the T-5s, for a few days. Hoping the girls would stretch towards the top of the cabinet. No joy. We'll see if lowering the lights helps at all?

Also, because of this. There is quite a bit of "undergrowth". I can hardly make out the number of nodes, each gal has. And not sure if the LED lights will be able to penetrate the ever denser canopy? They are not tall enough to reap much of the sidelight benefits either. Hoping the stretch will take this "jungle" upwards a bit, when it comes (sung to the tune of, "She'll be comin round the mountain" :bigjoint:

I am looking to FIM or top these babies, within the next week or two. Once the nute burn damage fades a bit :hump: So I will be inflicting even more pain and stress, on these poor girls. Can they survive another round of pain and torture, at the hands of the ignorant (and brown thumbed) Dr 2Tight?................ bwahahahahaha

Stay tuned .........

Nice setup can't wait to see if they turn purp!! I saw your setup in a few issues ago of high times that's a pricey lol cab you got, looks like its set up well, maybe mod it and put a air cooled 400 in there it's be on!!!

Hey Mugsy, thanks for the post! We shall see how the set up works. As I told the little lady. This is just a basic platform (and yes it was pricey). As you can see by my list (and I didn't list 'em all) of grow failures above. I am not too swift when it comes to this stuff. At least not yet. If I would have tried to build a stealth system, on my own. I would likely have burned down the house. Not to mention, I do resemble my nickname (too tightly wound) So I made this investment. Some things about it are good, others not so much, But I will make this sucka work....lol Or die trying (given my age, that's a definite possibility :-) When I make it work, and it gets anywhere near decent yields (1/4lb pr cycle/.5 oz per plant)? It should pay for itself within a year. Plus it'll keeps this old fart out of trouble. Or, at least out of other trouble...lol

I'd love a 400W HID. But cooling that bad boy, would blow the "stealth" of the cab. As it is now, one of the great things about the cab is that it is quiet. Sort of like a quiet refrigerator. Just two air outlets, through the scrubbers, On the top of the cab. Having said that however. I do have a 150w self contained HPS. That I can substitute the LEDs for during some, or all of the flowering cycle. I may have to use A/C to compensate for the added heat. Those LED's may not be very strong. But they sure are cool. Hang in there with me. We'll see how the veg goes. As this is the area where LEDs are supposed to shine. But I am worried about size and density of buds. Hence the 150w HPS, in the on deck circle.
