Ok, probably been discussed before but I wanted to bring it back up if it has been.
There are many ways to gather kief for useage. And many prefer kief made hash from bubblehash. For those of you who would prefer a set it and walk away method I have this idea to share with you.
Lapidary Tumblers are used with grits of varying sizes to smooth and polish rough stones. They come in side and upright varieties but for this particular use - you will want the side variety such as http://www.kingsleynorth.com/skshop/product.php?id=46596&catID=102
Mind you this can easily be built yourself if you'd rather not spend the money on professional tumblers. (A man I know built one for nearly nothing picking up scrap rollers from a factory and an electric motor plus some scrap lumber and a 30gal drum) Easily spent under 100 dollars and possibly less than 50. Of course we arent going to be looking at a tumbler of this size, this man was polishing rocks the sizes of "viewing glasses" that a fortune teller might use.
Now take the tumbler tin (where the rocks are placed) and measure the diameter of the opening. Find another round (or octagon as lots of tumbler tins are octagonal) container with a top that fits inside it and can easily be removed. (Preferably a metal container for its stuctural strength and low weight) Mark the exact center on the bottoms of both the tumbler tin and the inside container and using a drill, drill a hole thru them. A bolt will be run thru them both to hold the inside container in place where it doesnt touch the walls of the tumbler tin in use.
Take the inner container out and with a dremel or other means cut away the sides of the container leaving strips all around it for support (at least 4) if your container is an octagon just leave the corners where each side meets. Take a screen (65-120microns depending on how you want it - to understand the differences in micron sizes check a bubblehash tutorial) and cut it to fit the inside of the container, attaching it with thin wire to the supports you left and as tightly to the original shape of the container as possible. Take a silicon gun and seal the edges on the inside near the top and bottom of the wire.
Now grind and freeze (2-4hrs) your desired stash (bud or trim). Dont grind it to a powder you want it broken up like you would if breaking up by hand for a joint. Add the frozen product to the inner container, bolt it in place to the tumbler bin, close both containers up and place it on your tumbler. Cut it on walk away and check it every 30-1hr. If done correctly only kief should pass thru from the inner container to the tumbler bin.
When done, remove the inner container, and dump out the kief from the tumbler bin onto a sheet of glass and proceed to use it as is, or press it into hash discs with a press.
While this takes away the loveliness of the hands on approach to it, if you've got quite a bit of stash to work with you could use multiple bin setups and process it all alot quicker than by hand.
Anyways - just one of those ideas that came to mind and felt like sharing - if you decide to build it, or have already - show us!
