Kind LED

My buddy sells lights and tents for one of those pre-fab Alibaba brands, he swears they're the best but how can you ever trust the salesman to give you the best advice? Glad I came here I almost wasted my money on crap leds, pretty sure I'm either going to build my own or just buy some strips for now.

Well the boards are actually Samsung. Light manufacturers like hlg or timber and few others are actually transparent about what they use from the lights themselves including the bin numbers to the drivers powering them. They are upfront about how they’re built.

Building imo is the best route to take.

This coming from the kind salesman that gives fake room dimensions and never shows the lights in his pics smh....
B147C4F0-9102-4ED2-9CF8-111E3902E0BD.jpeg Here’s an old old pic when I first got a few of these lights and took a picture through method sevens strange how the lighting is different

I see from your pic you were on Kind's are you still running them or did you build?
I build. I get new stuff all the time from a buddy at a local shop to demo and give feed back. I had gotten 4 of these guys to try. I run three rooms this is my designated “experiment” room. I can’t even sell the ones I have no one wants them around me and I had them list for 400 a piece. Most folks either build their own or run hps or cmh lights where I’m at. For the price they aren’t worth anything other than being a fancy 36 lbs disco light/ paper weight. I’m simply posted this to show the difference in the light through method seven led glasses.

Alright, don't want to get ripped apart here, but very new and honestly am confused a bit. I've decided I want to go with strips or COB and I think I'm good with 50w/sqft? Anyways dumb question incoming, do I need different lights for veg and bloom or do I just need one? I see on both the timber lights and omega sites there are different options like 3000 k or 4000 k what does that mean?
Either option will work as will 3500k .... no need to think veg / bloom terms that much any more.
4000k is similar to the spectrum at high noon ( sun ) just a bit more blue in it than say 3000k.
3000k / 3500k both veg pretty well. Some growers are building 5000k rigs for more vigorous VEG STAGES but you can use the others for start to finish.

Cob builds are just as good as anything else , plus you can get a prebuilt or try DIY .
30-50 sq ft . Is where you want. So you can go with strips ( lm501 or LM561 ) , many can run without heatsink if power is factored. You can follow builds , journals from others here on RIU to get some ideas. Nobody has cornered the best build , it’s what suits your space and planned yield target.

No need to crank a 1000 watts into 3x3 as you can get some righteous plants running 320-400 watts in same space. Most leds are Midpower offerings so they “ shine “ at more mid power levels
( 50-60 watts per board ). Some guys like the dimmer functions of B type drivers to either run soft ( seedlings , clones , etc ) then power up when plants need it.

Wow, you pretty much nailed all of my questions. That was super helpful thank you.

Looking at these 238 true watts leds on TrueNorthernLighting (can't post links if you google you will see it) since they ship in Canada and they're affordable, not sure what strips they're using or if I should pick 4000 k or sun spectrum because I have no idea what sun spectrum is, I'm guessing 3000 k?

I would say keep looking .... that WING looks wonky , assembly looks thrown together.
There is NO “ ABOUT “ section / info. No led info , just some par chart that can be created on any computer.

As far as which color.
Kelvin color choice is fine for ANY of them .... 3000 / 3500 / 4000 ...Which can at times be what is ONLY available as many spec boards / strips sell out fast.
Don’t get 2700k unless you are ONLY flowering with it.

I would reach out to some of the venders here on RIU - cobkits , @RainDan , @robincnn and others to get some info on Canadian shipments. Look for a professional website that allows you payment options , good inventory , contact info , component info , etc.

Not some BASIC site that really doesn’t give much to look at , plus how you pay that might be sketchy.

Yeah yeah.. Those of us who have been here long enough know he isn't a salesman. You could call 70% of the guys who hang out in the LED section salesmen based on the fact we would all recommend HLG or omega or cobkits or timber. Fact is non of us are, its because we know enough about the products and have seen either first hand or second how those companies lights or products perform. We were all happy with the results and would recommend them every day. Since its every day someone askes about what LEDs they should buy for x $ in y space.

Now where are all these kind grow journals showing amazing results? Not on here, not on any other forum? Says it all really.

Funny thing is the actual guys running these businesses and paying for advertising on here are not the ones promoting them or jumping in every thread saying our lights are best. All of them have happy customers who are more than happy to recommend.
There is a damn good reason why HLG gets mentioned in every LED thread.

Thanks budz, super helpful again.

Update: Send out a pigeon to contact the guys at truenothernlighting to get all the info I want, it says they use meanwell and Samsung parts but I'll get the full details. Also I was looking at the 238 plate setup for a 3x3

Good luck my friend .... look at OPTIC 1 - single powered CREE COB light ... glass lens really nice lamp to get up and running ... so much so ... it might be a CENTRAL center rig for a new QB 4 panel I’m brainstorming.

A little light in watts per sq. ft. for flower.. Probably should be 300 watts or more. Just my 2cts
I'll probably go back and forth on wether or not I'm going to shrink my tent or expand my light forever lol I'll try not to take you for the ride

I like what they are doing - seems like they are using clones of Samsung 22" double row strips. I personally like the single row strips so you can space them out better.

I would contact them and ask what they mean by "sun spectrum"

Their coverage estimates, however are a little overly optimistic:
"Our Plate series is our standard fixture running a 238W this light will be perfect to flower a 4x4 tent at a beginner level." Nope, sorry. It will flower a 2x4 quite well, no doubt, but not a 4x4, you would need two of them for that.
