Kushdaddy's 8'x8' Grow

It's always a hard decision to make when setting up a system you want to grow in for years.

Cheap out and in a year or so you're kicking yourself in the ass or spend like royalty then lose interest later and it's another but-kicking party.

For myself with a cool underground grow area I would go with the HPS lights but don't need lights as I have more than I need now and need the heat.

For most guys they need to avoid heat so the LEDs are the way to go.

Biggest problem is that new growers don't have a clue what they need and get sucked in by the $$ signs.

'Our 1000W equivalent LED systems will save you tons of cash' but later you find out they couldn't grow a decent turnip so you need better lights. Our cheapo tent is great but soon falls apart and you need a quality tent etc etc.

There's nothing wrong as a nOOb in buying a half-assed all-in-one system for real cheap then replacing things to upgrade your grow as you learn more and develop a love for growing. That cheapo light and tent can become a great veg space while you upgrade for the more important flowering space.

It's too easy to get into a new hobby and buy nothing but the best then later find out it doesn't work for you or you lose interest and wasted a lot of dough.

Be careful out there.

thanks man, yes it is tough choice. Do i go for the quick cheap pop or spend the cheese??lol ill probably go right in the middle and get the cheapo tent but with some decent accesorries. I would like to get the most bang for my buck, but also would like some durability. I think id rather have a zipper or light leak in the tent as opposed to a fan go bad or light blow out. Ill let you guys know what i finally decide to get, but ill do some more shopping first.

Tiny light leaks along zippers are nothing. They truly won't cause a problem unless you have really bright lights outside the tent and your bedroom light just isn't enough so not a worry.

Light quality is an issue tho. I bought 2 Light EnerG 1000W Super HPS bulbs for the price of one Hortilux SHPS and after testing with a cheapo light meter got what I paid for. They only showed 1000 on my meter at 3ft while the Hortilux hit 1500. It wasn't only the meter that convinced me that they were crappier lights but my plants that seemed to sit up and look happier within hours of being switched to the Hort.

What your experience with the same strain of pot as the next guy is very dependent on how that pot is grown. I used to believe that if you took two clones from the same mother and grew them under different conditions that they would both give the same experience but have learned that it is not true.

Genetic expression is changed due to different environments and can have a profound effect on the finished product. Even tho both clones are genetically the same they will show very different growth characteristics if they live in different environments.

This, to me, is just not only puzzling but a real PITA! It's a real thing tho so must be taken into account when deciding on how to grow and how to adjust my growing to account for environmental differences. I'm a chemist, not a biological scientist. lol

It comes down to supplying the best environment you can and being happy with the product you get. Like a stolen watermelon always tastes better than the one you buy at the supermarket. ;)

so i did it guys! put in my orders for the 8x8. i got a 8x8 tent, four 1000w hps cooltube kits, 10" vortex fan and carbon filter, two 320 cfm inline fans for the lights w/ 6" insulated ducting, 16 five gal fabric pots for a total of $1427.00. Only spent 50 bucks more than i calculated.Screenshot_2019-03-31-07-37-59-1.png Screenshot_2019-03-30-21-31-11-1.png

Glad to see you pull the trigger, I got here a little late, but I don't think you will like that 10 inch can fan for several reasons. 1 it will be loud as hell, and 2 its way overkill for that setup. a single 6 inch is more than enough in fact i turn mine all the way down.Would have rather seen you go with a cmh instead of hps I'm slowly getting switched over, But anyway you got a good start and wish you the best.

my only concern with the 10" fan is creating a super vaccum and sucking the walls of the tent in. These guys didnt think a 6" alone was enough to cool the tent with four 1000w lights in it. I havent fired the 10" vortex up yet to see how loud it is but im imagining im going to need a fan speed controller at least to turn it down some.i would have totally went with cmh but they were out of my budget for this grow.i didnt really know much about cmh lights either.im going to do some more research on those, and maybe when funding comes through ill upgrade.

My 6" fan, even on 60% sucked my 8X4X7 tent in a ton...pulled the seams and zippers- caused pinholes/light leaks. Hindsite, I should have added more than 1 ventilation inlet
thats kinda what im afraid of,
this tent has four vents at the bottom, two on each side. but if i have to there are a few other 10" and 8" holes i could open up as vents, id put furnace filters in the holes if i did that.i definitly dont want to pull at the seams and zippers too much.

Good luck on this grow- I am looking forward to seeing it all happen. GG4 is one of my favorite strains.....a bit powerful for me, but favorite to grow so far.
this will be my first run of gorrilla glue. I got a chance to try some of the growers finished product and it was really strong
