I've got a plant that has been doing something similar, last week the buds were big thick and dense; now they're starting to look as if there's some kind of stretch and they're fluffing out.. I was thinking maybe foxtailing? A friend of mine suggested revege but I was thinking it was a little late in the game for that?

New moon tomorrow morning...as moon waxes next week moisture will rise more into the plant. I'm only half kidding because I think there's actually something to that, though probably not to fix what you're describing. Still, if you're sure it didn't somehow get over-ripe suddenly without swelling much, would be interesting if things look better next week. Forget where you guys are exactly but here on the Maine coast it looks pretty good through the weekend though you never know.
