Just a quickie on the grow op

8bulb t5, 4 plant scrog bloom, 3 gallons FFOF, FF Trio, perpetual bi weekly harvest c99 and Sugar Black Rose. It does ok, could be better. Im getting another 8 bulb to start a weekly harvest with 8 plants blooming.

Here's the deal. Yesterday I was poised to spend around 250 bucks in making my own organic soil/AACT maker. I'm straight sick to death of FFOF, soil, hauling bags in and out of my basement. DONE with that shit. Then i came across the KISS method. Then I came across hempy buckets. Really? Really?

Heres my 2 things.

1. again with the hauling shit up and down stairs. I need a reusable media. Now i have read that Perlite is reusable. Is there anything better? I like the idea of a bucket of crushed lava rock.
2. has it been shown that the pot size will effect yield? I saw some guy growing in 2L coke bottles. Others in 5 gallon. Currently im under the assumption that pot size only reflects how much you want to water them. ie 5 gallons gets watered every other day were as a 1 gallon is daily?

So glad i found this before i went to the long ordeal of ROLS

#1, perlite, vermiculite, yes, reusable. just flush once a month to rinse out any salts.
#2 It's always been spoken about that the deeper the pot the bigger the plant yet I have seen oz's grown from a 2 gallon pail... You also want to let the soil dry out... This causes the roots to grow to find sources of water, thus increasing final yield. Too many growers still watering too much and not letting the soil dry out still...

Hope you get what you are looking for

You can use a wide variety of different media in a hempy bucket. I've seen a guy do very well using the polyfill that they stuff pillows with. I use perlite and have used a wide variety of container sizes.
I've settled on 2gal containers and they work great for me. IMO most people water hempys too often, I wait till my buckets go very close to bone dry - about every 3-4 days or so. When I used
folgers coffee cans as my containers it was still around 2-3 days before they dried out. It is important to allow the medium to dry out and let oxygen reach the root system.

Perlite and just about any other medium is reusable, but the amount of work can make it not worthwhile. You will need an enzyme such as cannazyme to break down
the root mass (try as you might you will never get all the roots out) There is a couple newer products out that are more reuse friendly such as mapito and growstones. The mapito is simply rockwool chunks and foam pieces, it needs to be buffered before using. The grow stones are superheated glass and appear to be similar to perlite in it's inertness. It also appears much easy to remove the roots from the used growstones.

While these other options are nice, perlite is readily available and cheap. And the results are very good with the all perlite method. Check my sig link for some perlite hempy ideas and feel free to ask any questions there if you'd like.
