Leaf Claw - Experienced Grower

Hi - I don't think I have ever posted a plant help question but I'm extremely frustrated. I am having leaves "claw up" especially on my Blue Dream. They are small plants, were about a foot tall when put into flower 2 weeks ago. The leaves fold over lengthwise and begin to curl downward at the end.

I know that the general protocol is to put up a lot of data about the grow, but if y'all would be willing, I'd like to just post up the pics and see if anyone could chime in with "Oh yeah, I had an issue that looked just like that and it turned out to be __________". Briefly, the set up is Roots Soil, running Fox Farms nutes. Also, since I have multiple plants exhibiting this, I will be able to attempt different remedies on different plants until I figure it out.

Thanks!

Are you giving to much nitrogen ?
I don't believe I am, but at this point I have no clue anymore. I am thinking for one of the plants I will go plain water only to see if that helps...just in case it's any type of over fert. problem.

I have 3 or 4 to test on so if anyone else has thoughts I'm totally open.

high temps might do that..not enough venting ...that's my opinion!
Good guess and thanks for the comment. I have definitely seen leaf curl from temps.

Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure that's not the case on these. I have one about 2 1/2 feet under a 1000W, one close to a 600W, and one moved off to a cooler, indirect light section of the room, just to make sure. Temps are generally running in the mid 70's to low 80's during the day (running CO2). Evening temps are dependent on the outside temp, but have dropped as low as upper 50's. I added a space heater tonight to try and keep my nighttime temps up better.

Anyone else seen leaves look like these?

Yeah. It's probably too high a PPM, BlueDream is a low feeder. Clawing is a sign of overfeeding. Feed it plain water once, the size of the pot it's in. It wont flush all the nutes out but it will lower the ppm.

Sounds good. I'll definitely do a bit of a flush and go water only on one.

Another is going to stay in a cooler section of the room to eliminate the possibility of heat stress.

Anyone have a suggestion. I've got 1 more in flower to experiment with!

Had the same prob, soil test kit may show high pH, I watered with pH down and they improved overnight and then normalised. I always pH water for soil now.

I water with 6.0 PH. After some research I may try moving up to 6.5. I will also try measuring runoff PH to see if something is really out of wack...

not going to be alot of help but i have been struggling with the same thing with my afghan kush i have tried everything it started before i started feeding nutes im now feeding nutes pulled it away from the light even set it outside the grow room once a weed with no change im stump and im afraid its going to herm on me.

If I get it fixed on mine I will let you know what works for me.

Also, if anyone else has another issue they believe could be causing the problem let me know! I have one more plant available for experimenting.

Thanks to all for the input. I'm quite sure I am killing them with love...

As background I have been growing organically with enriched soil for the last few years. Now I am working on transitioning to a more controlled feeding method in a soilless medium...my current intermediate step is to use nutes in an enriched soil (Roots Organic). Years ago I had run some hydro and before that some guerilla outdoor... Anyways, what all this means is after years in organic soil I have let myself become lazy...

I managed to feed the crap out of these sensitive ladies. When I flushed with 6.5 PH'd water the runoff was 4.4 PH and 1480 PPM...argh. I don't want to jump the gun, but I flushed another couple gallons through the pot with 7.5 PH and runoff was 5.5 PH and 440 PPM. I will now need to watch these plants very closely, but it sure seems like I had nutrient buildup in the soil and that was 1-toxifying the plant, 2-driving the PH very low.

Since Blue Dream is supposed to be a light feeder, I think it's acting as the "Canary in the Coal Mine" on the nute buildup. I think I have a large flushing project coming in the near future...

Thanks everyone and I will post results once I get a sense of whether this nailed the problem or not.

ppm too high, half your feeding levels, then raise slightly as they recover, dont think it's PH tbh.....
eagle claw is normally over fert related.

i think you just solved my problem last 4 grows in 4th to 5th week flower ec freaken rises from a flush with in three days then flush again ph was 5 know 4.5from run off ph has to be around 5.8 to 6 run off what ive read, yellowing from bottom to top if i dont nurse it and let the ec rise they full be yellow stop drinking all together so you said 7.5 ph you ran and it went up 1 full point mad im going to try that right know hope it works.as for your drama i had same problem with the afgan i ran, the claw to me was high ec low ph and i think the strain got some thing to do with it never seen it on other strains ive ran cheers.

I agree. It seems to have simply been over feeding. I think the ph was just a symptom of all the nutes in the soil.

Up until now I have been running ff trio at about 2/3 strength on a schedule of nutes nutes water. I just assumed that was low enough but obviously I should have checked.

Going to flush everything that was on that schedule and go to 1/4 strength with water only every other. Then slowly up from there.

Thanks all.

I had the same issue for the first time this grow. Ive got a mainlined "mutt" mostly sativa that when I switched to flower nutes I bumped it up pretty hard and the PH dropped to under 5.0 on the drain water. My other plants, one sativa and the other kushy type didn't show the issue. It just may be the strain so I've learned to change nutes levels slowly from now on watching the PH closer.
