Leaf Spot Septoria or calcium lockout/deficiency

Hey all,

I have an outdoor plant growing in soil and have been seeing more and more necrotic brown spots on my leaves. Some are circular which is normally indicative of septoria but some are irregular spots. I get septoria on my tomato leaves every year so was thinking it may be that. I do feed calmag every week but it’s possible the soil is acidic and maybe a calcium lockout. I am going to start feeding 7.0 PH water and feed but was hoping someone may be able to tell if it’s septoria or not. Only the fan leaves appear to be affected and not bud leaves or buds which is a good thing. Hopefully it’s not a huge deal. Many thanks for any help!

Are you doing foliar feeding? Or perhaps splashed a little of your nutrient solution on the leaves? I have gotten a few leaf spots like that accidentally while fertilizing. Otherwise it does look like septoria. Not that big a deal if it is. Pull bad leaves and remove them from the area. Try neem oil, it could help.

Hey there JimmiP, it’s veen a while since I’ve spilled anything on the leaves as this thing is almost 8 feet tall but I have done that before. This seems to be slowly spreading into all the fan leaves and am thinking it may be septoria so will try some neem oil on the fan leaves to try and control for the last 3-4 weeks until harvest. I’m hoping it doesn’t spread into the buds but we shall see! Thanks for your input

Cool, by the way that is a very nice plant you have there. I dont think your harvest will be effected that much even if it does spread a bit.:bigjoint:

Thanks mate! This is my first outdoor grow but have grown indoors a few times. I never expected a plant to get this hide from seed starting in April. But definitely is a monster compare to what I’m used to. Hoping lots of good smoke :bigjoint:

Guys I need to know how you get your plants 8 feet tall. Obviously have better climate then where I live. Do you start them indoors and how long for before you put them outside?? Thanks

Not all of mine get to be eight feet tall. Most of mine are kept short and wide. That being said, I have grown quite a few in the six to nine foot range. Some of it is up to the plants genetics. Some of it is training. Some of it is the soil, you have to grow good roots to have big plants. Then feeding it what it needs, when it needs it.

Starting them inside does help but it is not necessary. The biggest one I have right now started out its life in our firepit. I had dumped some seeds from last years grow off of my tray and a few of them started growing after we had a fire. Lol. I pulled them out and potted them. Then decided I needed the space for a different strain. I pulled them out and tossed them in the wood pile and thought that was the end. One of them rerooted itself. Now its four and a half by seven feet wide.

When you start indoors depends on the amount of room you have to work with. I put mine outside in May or June.

I keep pinching and bending to stimulate growth throughout their life.

I use bat guano tea made with honey a lot when the are younger. Then once every week or two untill flowering, along with nutrients and water in the right ph range.

I also aerate the soil by poking holes with a long thin stainless steel rod, when they are in the ground. They really, really like that extra air. And it gets the nutrients you feed them distributed a little deeper.

If they are in containers then make sure the soil is light and airy with good drainage. And dont feed or water them unless they need it. Lots of perlite and and coco mixed in with a good potting soil is what I'm using right now. If you want them to get really big in a container repot them as the roots fill their space and end in a big pot.
Good luck and keep growing!:peace:

I started this plant indoor from seed on April 2 indoors this spring. And put it outside on June 1. I am in Ontario Canada here so growing season isn’t all that long either. But by the time I put it out in June, it’s already got 2 months veg, been topped once and supercropped to encourage more outward growth and more tops. It started flowering mid July so doubled in height to 8 feet and 6 feet wide. I honestly had no idea it would grow this large lol. But I am glad I only grew one this year as my gf isn’t too happy with its size. The other trick is container size which will also limit your size. The bigger the pot the bigger the plant if you veg long enough. This one is in a raised bed garden so about 200 sq feet of soil

I live in Ontario Canada so our growing season isn’t that long. I started my seed indoors in early April so it had 2 months of veg in a 7 gallon pot by the time I put it outdoors in June. If you want a big plant, pot size is important. I put mine into a raised bed garden when I transplanted outdoors so the roots had lots of room. So I’d say it’s genetics, veg time and size of pot or garden

I am going to build a couple of potting beds next year instead of 5 gallon pails as I’m finding all this out. I have a ton of room in my yard and want some monsters. I did pimm these a few times when they were young so they got nice and bushy

Yeah man those plants look great. Not sure when you started them and if clone or seed but if you get them outside in early June and in a big ass pot or garden bed, you’ll get some pretty big plants going. I started my seed in early April but even if you started later they can get big. I made a clone for a neighbour in June this year and his is 6 feet now and his is right in the ground too.

These pics are my plant on May 25th after it recovered from topping and some LST. The next is it’s first day in the garden on June 2 and then the last one is today. The chair is just over 3 feet tall for reference. The plant lost some height now that the top buds are getting heavier and weighing down the branches lol

Those are some pretty plants you have there Clumpyoyster. Those sure are some fat leaves. One other thing I forgot to type about getting bigger plants yesterday... Make sure they get as much direct sunlight as possible. Right now that's the only thing I need more of. The seven foot volunteer I have is getting less than I would like. Wish I would've dug it back up when I saw it like this.20190720_110538.jpg
