Leaves curl, growing slow (Pics and 1st timer)

Okay so I'm new to the whole thing like the title states, I am using 400 MH > HPS in FFOF soil. I've noticed it has been growing slowly and one leaf has twisted a bit, I have previously diagnosed a heat issue by looking at the edges of the leaves. This one however has got me, I've done reading and some things match my issue but then further description ruins my hopes. I am asking the community for a bit of help here for a first timer, the pictures provided were taken today.

The plant sprouted on the 3rd of September, second set of leaves developed by the 16th and today the 23rd the third set has just begun. Am I on pace? If anything, what am I doing wrong by looking at the provided pictures.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

What kind of seed is this? To be honest it seems like bad genetics. Especially for 20 days old. Are you growing multiple plants or just this one?

my guess is you got a hot batch of the ffof or its the light. i have seen it time and time again with the of. what i would do is, i would flush that soil really good. just to be safe. also how far are the plants away from the light? they look like they are being burned up by either nutes or the light. i wouldnt even put my sprouts under an hid till at least 10 days of solid growth. do you have an old flourecent shop light laying around? or do you have the money to go pick up a cheap cfl?

@ dellamore: I am growing just one right now, don't want to overwhelm myself... one is enough for me right now.

@Mrfootball420: The light is 18'' from the canopy to base of the reflector. I did nute at sign of 2nd leaf which was probably to early so I'll just water through it and see what my results are. I'll keep the CFL idea in mind though should this attempt fail, money isn't an issue for me right now.

Thanks for the responses guys!

Another quick Q: I've noticed a white substance on my surface soil, this wouldn't happen to be salt would it? If it is how would this affect the pH levels of the soil?

How many hours per day are you running your lights? What are your temps? Have they been under the 400 since they sprouted?

@bigjesse: I run my lights @ 18/6, could you give me a proper way to measure temps in the area, I've done @ canopy and it is around 80f and I have had my plant under a 400 MH entire time with about 18'' distance.

@budforever: I will have to look into this, I have a pH meter made by Rapitest but it looks like a giant thermometer and the thing doesn't work :(

I have had great success if FFOF. And it's just "plain" idiots. At least spell properly if you are going to make ridiculous statements.

Superthrive is good but it's not a miracle additive and anyone who claims otherwise is peddling snake oil. Just flush them when they need to be watered next and hope for the best.
