LED choices.. so many decisions.

Hello everyone having a hard time deciding on some LEDS.

Recently I searched and searched and finally settled on A 51 then I narrowed it down from the 190 to the 150. Now my problem came in when I looked into GN ms0006 and now I'm stuck at trying to choose once more. I've also heard about hans and some others like apache but haven't looked into them much. Heard they were $$.

My question is could anyone give me a rundown on the A51 rw 150 vs the GN m0006.

This will be my first led, I'm ready to drop the 600watt. To much heat

The GN m0006 is a rebranded Apollo LED, with low efficiency, and low quality parts.
It's cheap, will grow weed, but the quality of medicine may be lacking depending on their spectrum and diodes. Also, the trade off for the cheaper price tag, is a greater chance of electrical failure.

The A51 RW-150 is made from high quality parts, is very efficient, and has a limited lifetime warranty. A51 has their own custom spectrum, which has worked wonderfully for me, for years.
I would highly recommend the RW-150 over the GN m0006.

GN is changing to a new light which uses their "Rebel module" (upgrade) or the components of that module. "Bad Karma" may be correct about the components of the legacy "ms" lights which use the Apollo housing. But, the Rebel module uses Philips and Everlight LEDs.

If you were to compare the Rebel spectrum to A51:

A51 RW:
Code:
50% Red, 625nm
50% White, cool 5700-6200k
GN Rebel:
Code:
6.7% IR 2x 730nm
60.0% Red, deep 18x 660nm
13.3% Blue 4x 450nm
20.0% White 6x = avg 4233k
     2x 2700k
     4x 5000k
GN has increased their white light three times, up to the current "rebel" level. A51 has been more aggressive.

I agree with "bad" that I'd choose the a51. (I have the XGS). I like the lifetime warranty, etc.

But, there is an inexpensive way to sample GN's spectrum. You can get an Apollo 4-spot on Alibaba (seller name "Thunder Lighting") for $150 US, free shipping and no surcharge for custom spectrum. I'm running one right now and it's working ok in veg. The Apollo has 15 pieces wheras the Rebel has 30. So, you cut the Rebel's pieces in half and you have a lower power "rebel."

Thank you Bad Karma and az2000 for the replies and for bringing these things to my attention.
Another forum sponsored by GN was swaying me.
Will be grabbing the rw150 tomorrow and possibly a dr60 or dr90 tent.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a good fan controller or are they all about the same?

Also I know the rw150 can cover that space fine but should I add any cree bulbs or would it just be overkill?

Do you mean a speed controller? I recommend a $50 variac. (<<link) It runs much quieter because it reduces the voltage instead of clipping the sine wave. I have two dimmer-like speed controls, they cause a buzzing sound. I also wonder if it's good for the fan motor. The variac is $30 more, but is awesomely quieter.

I wonder if the buzzing with a dimmer-like controller is indicative of stress on the motor, like 60 on/off pulses every second. I'd like to wire this up to a thermostatic controller where, when the temperature rises above a preset level, it would bypass the variac and send full voltage to the fan. Full speed until the temperature drops, then back to minimal speed to exchange the volume of the tent every 5 minutes. Just a relay and maybe some diodes.

Rw150 should be here today. Ordered a fan controller before reading this so I think I made the wrong decision.

I also have the variac and happy with it. Fan works great with it and no buzzing. I also have the dr 90 tent and I think it's ok but not great. The zipper is decent but has a fair amount of light leaks. I have a xgs 190 in it so I can see that white light coming through the zipper and one seam. It sets up fast and even though the frame has plastic connectors, they seem ok. When I switched to flower I was worried about those leaks so I zip tied all ports I wasn't using and zip tied the sleeves around my intake and exhaust vents ( fan is on a board sitting on top of tent and phresh filter strapped to inside top of tent so I could raise light higher and not hit fan). Even though the tent had those pinhole light leaks I turned three lights in the room on,got inside of tent and had my wife zip it up and it was pitch black in there. No light came in thru those leaks. Kinda shows how bright the 190 is.
