LED compatible?

hey gang, I’ve got a 2x2x5.5 foot tent with a 200w cfl running in er.
I’ve got one inline fan running fresh air into the tent and a circulating fan inside for air flow.
Is a tent this small usable with LED’s or should I just continue running the CFL?
I’m just worried about an LED getting too hot for such a smal space.
Thanks for any input!

200W of anything is still 200 watts of heat. How does less heat and more usable light sound to you?

I actually run a 2x2x4 tent myself, and i have a 140 Watt COB fixture doing the job :D

Moving on to LEDs would be an upgrade in your case because recent leds are A LOT more efficient than CFL technology when it comes to producing photo-synthetically active radiation (PAR LIGHT), leds have a much better light spectrum, and also the fact that LED lasts years longer than CFL without significant degradation.

If you use recent leds like the ones being mentioned in the led section (citizens, veros, bridgelux strips, samsung strips, etc/wtv) you could "max" out that tent with only 120 watts of energy consumed.

Thanks a lot! Great info.
I will definitely be stepping it up to a new LED. Switching to flower tomorrow or Wednesday, I will look to pick one up before then.
Cheers!

I would put two Quantum boars in there .. you would get close to 250w but so much more efficient.. i wouldnt be surprise if you end up doubling your yield or close to cfl does produce lots of heat but are not very efficient either in terms of lumens / watt

Don't be duped into that 'Full Spectrum' load of crap. Blurple LED's are only good for veg and sub par at that. Do like the others suggested and stick with QB's from the likes of HLG, strip lights, or actual COB's. Those blurple from Mars , King, and others are nothing but junk. Stick to your guns and do it right the first time. Cheers and Happy Growing. bongsmilie

A 135w Quantum board will cover 2x2. Not only will your heat be less but you will have more light. Much more.

What happens to the light?
Hopefully it grows plants but yes light will heat things up a bit but not really worth talking about 60% artificial light is only going to give you a small fraction of that in heat. If not we wouldn't need heaters in cold places just run lights for heat.

So if a 200W light is 60% efficient, then 120W of energy becomes light. If that 120W of light doesn't become heat, what becomes of it? Does it just bounce around in your tent forever?

It becomes buds if you know what you are doing some people tend to grow more mold and PM then buds.

So what you're saying is, practically 100% of the light emitted is captured by photosynthesis and makes a negligible contribution to heat?
Sounds about right.. hps for instance is 65% heat 35% light while newer LED like quantum or COB is about 35% heat 65%light which is why a 500w cob build or quantum build is about the equivalent to a 1000w hps..

I didnt read about it but I would think blurple lights are as efficient as hps which is why you look at watt from the wall for blurple
