LED for mother plant.

This is all preliminary research. I'm finishing up an autoflower grow, but will be growing photos next. I'm thinking of taking a few cuttings to use one as a mother plant.

Since the mother would always be in veg, can I get by with an inexpensive Ebay LED? Any suggestions? I am also open to any DIY suggestions.

Thanks.

ETA: I will never be taking a bunch of cuttings from the mother, so not terribly worried about quick regrowth. I will only ever be running 2-3 plants at a time.

How about some cool white LED bulbs. The Cree Globe 5000K looks nice (PPF is 1.3 umol/J). Btw you could also take clones from clones bypassing the need for mother plants.

Good suggestion about the clone from clone until I was ready to put a couple into "production".

I can give you an advice ,regarding the spectrum of the led light ,for your mother plant...
So for you to have an idea ,what inexpensive e-bay led or DIY,you should be aiming for ....

Useful leds for this occasion are the :

-Cool Whites (7000-6000 K )
and/or
-Neutral Whites (5000-4000 K )
and/or
-Blue 450-470 nm

A combo of these leds ,should be your main "led light core"..
They will keep the Mama ,in slow metabolic state, short ,compact and make her quite leafy and branchy ..

You can throw few (just few ) reds 630 nm ,in case you want your mother to have a bit higher metabolism ( quick new growth / quiker healing times ) .
And for a tad of starch production ,so the leaves of the cutting ,should have some stored energy ,until they root ...

You should be avoiding deep reds 640-660 nm ,Far red 700-750 nm and all the Warm white (3500-2700 K ) leds.
These type of leds either will quickly increase growth (not wanted in a mother plant ,I think ) and thus height or
either will stretch the plant and/or 'force' the plant into reproductive state (primordia -aka preflowers- will show up eventually..Not wanted ) ..

Depends how inexpensive...you could always back em up with a couple of CFL's..

I kinda doing something similar, but can't afford the Basic(Budget) LED Panels at the moment, so have been doing some Research(still doing this) and What I've decided to do is Build My own Panel..(a) Because I can Buy however many LED's off FleaBay as and when Funds permit..so been building up a Collection of 3w Red / Deep Red / Blue / White & Warm White LED's...had to Buy a Cool-Tube for My Main Grow(600w Hps) was having Temp issues..so this has put Me back a Bit..but should be able to get the Drivers for the LED's in next week or so...

Seen some VERY good home made(D.I.Y.) LED Panels > > > this being one of the BEST > > >

Mine won't be anywhere near as good or powerful, but then I am doing this for a sum total of about £30-40..just a Toe in the LED Water...and It's only going to be used on Clones/Cuttings and maybe chuck couple of seeds under it.
Been collecting Info and putting in My Journal > > > >
