Wow that was classy. Dude was trying to answer your question and you harsh him like that? Weak. So hows the outside dirt floro grow going for ya. Have you been told not to post by RUI mods because you might mess up their revenue? I mean thats what you said about your " The Hippies Grow thread in post 144 right? You posted this right?

(I stopped the grow journal for this thread. I was contacted by a mod and was told " If you continue showing cheaper solutions you are gonna interfere with our advertisers grow supplies." I'm not gonna say who did it but it was done. For the record the pics were real. )

It was about the eagles not him or his comment. The grow is going fine. No different then the hundreds I've done since the 80's.

In LED world 600 dollars will not do much for you. LEDS are good from start to finish if you have enough of them. LED's produce more "LUMENS" Per watt then any HID or CFL could ever imagine. Although as you may know , Lumens are only relevent to the human eye and not to plants in anyway, makeing it a poor judge of lighting for plants. Many people on this board will give you terrible opinions that are not based on fact but on hearsay and inexperience. For some unknown reason alot of people on this board includeing "Veterans" will attack and flame anyone involved in journals or questions related to LED's and LED technology. Look around and you will find Journals and info about LED's that proove they can be used from start to finish and produce AMAZING results.

I can go and purchase a CHEAP peice of crap HID light from China, use it for an hour before it starts smoking and burns out, and then conclude that all HID lights are crap and should not be used at any cost. This is the same sort of thing that has happened with LED lighting on this board and other internet boards. A few people went out and got these terrible low wattage china made peices of shit to be honest, attempted to use JUST ONE of these units to grow plants and they failed miserably. These people then concluded that all LED's are junk and should be avoided at any cost because all LED's Simply do not work. This is where we stand now, despite all of the positive info and positive results with people that can truely afford to use the technology, good results are ignored because people already have their mind made up that " all LED's are crap and just dont work".. LEDS will shortly be more popular than HID lighting indoors because,
1. the ability to have hunderds of tiny points of light instead of just one.
2. The Ability to put these tiny points of light hunderds of times closer, even possibly down inbetween plants and completly surrounding them.
3. The removal of "cooling devices" for lights that burn at thousands of degrees.
4. Tons of other advantages including Life time of the unit, power used,PAR , ect.

Long story short, you can use LED tech RIGHT NOW, that will grow you MJ plants from start to finish awesomely! The only thing that is required is the latest in L ED technology and the money to purchase ALOT OF IT to jam into a small area SUPER CLOSE to plants. Please do yourself a favor and if you do have the money to purcahse the latest in LED tech DO NOT GET SOME CHINESE CRAP Because it will not work. Here are just a few examples of units that will get the job done.

Pyrocon 100
TI-Smartbar 1000
TI- Smartlamp 600
There may be more current technology then available on these units, keep your eyes open.


If you only have 600 Dollars to spend get yourself an HID lighting system and a means to cool it. If you have thousands of bucks to drop go ahead and get yourself a bunch of high powered LED units and you will not be dissapointed and you will make your money back in a few years. Who feels like flaming today?
there are so many things wrong with this post...

1) no LED yet can even produce above 35 lumens per watt. and considering cfl's are 60+ and hps are 100+

2) Lumens are not just relevant to "the naked eye" but exactly what plants use to photosynthesize. What kind of light do you think they use? I don't see you with a black light grow room?

3)Many people on this board will give you terrible opinions that are not based on fact but on hearsay and inexperience...
LIKE YOU!!! LOL there are probably only 2-3 people on these forums with any real knowledge. the rest of us simply emulate.

1) LEDs have an overall luminous efficacy rating of 10 to 150 lumens per watt. On the other hand, MH lights are at 65-115, and HPS are at 85-150. (Oddly enough LPS are at 100-200...but its not a useful spectrum)

2) Lumens can be important, but only so long as they apply to the appropriate spectrums of light. For instance...if you use that LPS light I mention above, you will end up with an asston of Lumens because it produces light withi the visible spectrum, but since the light is a monochromatic tone that is useless to plants all those lumens are useless for growing.

3) I have the a strange feeling the guy you are replying to knows what he is talking about.

...as a side 4th...if it wouldn't be an ignorant jerkish thing to do, I would almost assume you were posting just to troll the forums...but I'm sure you wouldn't do that.

Show me what LED has a 150 lumens per watt rating. In all the research I've done the best I've found are the Luxeon K2's and again those are at about 30-35 lumens per watt.

Theoretically there are more beneficial light spectrums than others but any visible light will provide some benefit. Name one study you have found with information supporting your conclusion about only certain visible light spectrums. There is a video on youtube comparing LED growth to HPS. They used a 630nm LED and it supposedly outperformed the HPS as a beneficial light spectrum. Since you think a monochromatic approach does not work then explain that video for us.

Lastly, may want to get those strange feelings checked out. Just because a person says something like its a fact doesn't mean it is. Yes, I'm a troll but seeing posts with absolutely no factual substance is disingenuous.

White LEDs with about as many lumens / watt as the best HPS exist, they just are not economically feasible for a grow light at this point.

But lumens are a measurement that is biased for the human and has little to do with appropriate photosynthesis spectrums.

I am using a HydroGrow Led 126w light for flowering (3.5 weeks in) and things are looking great so far.

The thing that makes this light different is that is uses 60 degree LEDs to focus the light downward, as opposed to 120 degree. It has Reds, blues, white and a few IR leds (6 different bands i think).

LED panels emit less lumens than HID, but the beauty of it is that they only emit light spectrums most useful to the plant, so less watts can give better results.

With that said there are a whole lot of crappy LED products available that ain't worth sh!t for growing.
