LED lighting questions.

Picture this in your mind if you will.

An 8’ x 26’ room with four 4’ x 4’ ScroGs set up runningdown the middle of the room length ways.

Each ScroG has 1 plant growing under it.

Each ScroG has 2’ of space all the way around it from thewalls and the other ScroGs. I do this so I have access to each plant from allfour sides.

Now, since this is the layout of my setup here is what I’mwondering about getting the right LED light systems:
1. Do I put a single high wattage LED light directly overthe center of each 4’ x 4’ ScroG?

2. Do I put more than one lower wattage lights over eachScroG?

3. Are there high enough wattage LED’s and do LED’s giveenough “Cast Off” light that if I go with enough wattage I can hang one LEDcentered between two ScroGs and another centered between the other two ScroGs?

I have contacted a lot of companies that sell LED’s and afew growers who use LED’s and the answers I get to these questions are all overthe board. Some, I think, don’t really care about anything other than sellingme more lights so they make more money. As we all know LED grow lights are veryexpensive. I want to buy as cheaply as possible but still want the biggest bangfor my buck so to speak. Can you give me yourrecommendations. Some of you I’ve contacted before and I apologize if I’m beinga bother with all these questions. It’s just that I am 100% totally new at thisLED thing and I need some educated advice on the topic. Someone will mostdefinitely get my business and it will depend on a matter of how much I trustwhat they have to say.

Thank you in advance for your time and attention in thismatter.

Sincerely,

RtS

Why do people do that? I've used hps, moving on to bigger and better things. If you can't or won't answer the question then don't post please. I'm simply asking for info on LED's and want to know more about them.

because you need a 1000w hps to cover that space so maybes 700w of led hope you have deep pockets but your talking plasma money

almost no commercial green houses use led if it was that effective they would save several thousands a year

the point is you havent moved onto better things

I'm using a Hygro HO Led 600 and mine are looking great in veg but only in a small 2x3 space. We'll see how flower goes in a few weeks.

I'd say go with more than 1 lower wattage over each scrog. there's not many single unit leds out there currently that can truly cover a 4x4 the same was as say a 1k hps can. So I recommend more than 1 led to get better coverage. Aim for 600-800 actual led watts per 4x4 scrog and you should be sitting pretty. check what leds some of the growers in the forum are using and go from there. Good luck, sounds like a kick ass setup.

Just my opinion! I was gung ho about leds being bigger and better than hid lighting. Honestly it just isnt. Go with the hps?mh lights brother. I have a 240 watt 7 band led from htg. The light itself is awesome. Light penetration in my flower room was great. However The plants just responded so much better to the hps I have in there. I say the light itself is awesome because I now have it in my veg room and I couldnt be happier! So if u want to spend a bunch of money for an awesome veg do it. For ur space I would suggest 2 180 or 240 watt panels for each scrog. Im not saying that the leds will not do the trick. Its my opinion that they will. However for the money hps?mh just do a better job. I was trying to think ouside the box and be "new school" myself. Spent a lot of money and in the end hid lighting is just better. I hope u can see I am no led hater. Not at all. If u really have to use them I would use them in tandem with the hid lighting. Hope this helps! Whatever u choose to do good luck!

For your size of grow, you would be far better served to build your own led luminaires.
Start small and expand.

Even if this is not your first rodeo, leds are different and have a learning curve.

And read read read!!

Just another tid bit in case u didnt know. Do not by anything with 1 watt diodes. u will get zero penetration in flower! Go with the 3 watt diode with a 90 degree lens. WHo ever u buy from please make sure they are reputable and tell u the truth! If anyone makes a claim that the led they sell is equal or better than a 4,6 or 1,000 watt hid they are full of shit and are just trying to make a sale. Talk to a person who is willing to spend some time explaining things and answering your question! Thats why I always use htg. Again good luck!

Some stores claim the led will out perform hid in yeild. Thats what I was reffering to. Also why I said to speak to a person and if said person makes an outlandish claim like that stay away. The reason I stand behind htg is because I went into their store prepared to spend enough to buy 2 240 watt panels and the sales person honestly advised me against it. That being said even in the description u pointed out that is the distributors claim certianly not htg. At least the retail store in shrewsbury ma.

My final comment for now is the led that I did purchase a 240 watt 7 band is a million times brighter than a 400 watt hps. However after using both to flower the hps far our performed the led. But now said led is in my veg closet and it is far superior to anything I've ever veg under by far!

As far as Im concerned his statement is right on. The growth rates Im assuming that would be vegetative growth rates will be similar toa 400 watt hps or mh. I would even say the veg growth rates will be better. I have veged under cfls, hps, and mh and none of them compared to the 240 watt 7 band panel from htg. I think led is by far the best light to veg under hands down!!!! So all in all I would not consider that guy a liar!

HTG Diodes? I did not know HTG was also in the comedy business. Anyways, good luck with your HTG lights. Show us some pics of it in action. Would love to see a 135w (actual draw, you know it's not a full 240w, right?) light outgrow a 400w.

Apparently u have a problem with htg or something. Im not looking to argue. Im happy with the led panel I bought from them. Not here to defend leds or htg. I know the customer service I got was amazing and the light I bought from them was every bit as good as they said it would be. Nobody ever claimed that the led is a better light than hid. It isnt. All around Im a way bigger fan of hps/mh and would advise anyone looking to grow to go in that direction. However for a veg light I would say go led all day! If you feel like spending alot of money just for veg. Hid is a better bargain all day but if someone has the money and wishes to spend it for an awesome veg leds 100% work!
