LED lighting temperature

If I remember right there are some threads on here about the Vipar,(use the search bar) it may not be any more efficient than your HPS. Not all LEDs create less heat, some create more. Sometimes due to the fans on them dissipating the heat it may not seem that way but its only dissipated into the grow space eating it up.

You say you are not able to do any venting, how are you planning on exchanging the air within the grow area? It needs total air exchange to keep co2 levels within minimum ranges or your plants will die.

Being in the closet would opening the door for a period everyday checking on the plants not work? If not I may have to use space buckets, I would just like to get more yeild than they can provide. This is mostly an expense thing for me than anything, so I'm looking for the most cheap and effective way to start and I'll build from there.

I bought a california lightworks solarstorm 440 for a 3x3x9 space. It consumes 350w at the wall for flowering; it is suppose to replace a 400w/600w hps.

The temp with the LED over my canopy is about four degrees higher than room temperature. With CFL's the temperature can rise as much as 10 degrees over room temp.

I have only had my LED light for two weeks, but it does what I needed it to... Lower temps and higher potency/ and uses less watts than a 600w hps.
It is an older company and I am sure there are newer lights out there. But the solarstorm does the job i need it to. So I am happy with it. Just throwing it out as an option.

No matter what though, you need airflow. Personally I keep my door open 24/7. If you want to run a sealed room; it is going to be a lot more difficult than simply opening a door.

Nice One @mean.green ! The light he wants is only 276w at the wall so theres hope. I'm sure you will adapt and survive Derry.
Theres various ways of adding small amounts of co2 with DIY methods so you can always look down that route if needed..
 
I use 2 450 watt from that company and they seem to work great. This is my first grow and am by no means a pro but let my picture talk. As for the heat I have forced air going to my grow room from an Ac do to the heat in my shed 105+ degrees at the hottest part of the day but those lights are barely just get warm. Having both veg and bloom on will heat my 4×2×5 up about 3 degrees more than just running the one setting. Hope this helps and if you need more info on the lights feel free to ask.

I use a fan, would the fan bring in enough air flow for me to work with? Should I just go with space buckets?

If what im seeiny is correct I may have to get one of those fans with temperature control just in case temps rise a bit too much

The temperature seems like it will be fine with an LED from what people are saying, I'll probably go for another LED that may produce less heat as well. As for ventilation or getting air to myou closet am I just out of luck unless I use space buckets?

I leave my door open during day cycle, with three fans lined up in a row to push cold air in there. But, I am able to exhaust out my ceiling toward the roof. I use regular pots.

You need as much cold air as you can going into that room, without damaging your plants. If you do not have a way to exhaust; then you will need lots and lots of air movement.

If I was unable to exhaust out of my ceiling, this would be my backup plan: I would keep my fans on during the entire day cycle and move air around the entire house into my grow room. Just to keep my temps in check in the summer. In the winter things will be easier.

Hmm I may just get a UFO light, and if all else fails I can use it for a bucket grow, and eventually just make more bucketsense. If I can get about an oz a month in total I should be set

Personally I would just try to deal to the heat with the hps. So bigger exhaust generally solves it.

LED should be way cooler. Unless you're getting into expensive bulky units from what I've read and from my own experience LED are super cool. My current 360w GLOBALSTAR LED fixture replaces a 600w hps and only increases the temp in my tent by 1-2 deg. Celcius max. And thats with bloom and grow lights on.

I posted a few weeks ago about how my MH/HPS set up was WAY too hot. I am not able to do any venting, so I'm pushed to use LEDs. My question is do you think this light would produce too much heat in a 3x3x8 closet? There is also a 450w and 300w version. I just want to be able to grow to save money (medical)

@Olive Drab Green is currently using that light in the 450 I believe. He might provide you some info on them since he is using 2 of them on his current grow.

I run two 450w lights on a 90-95 degree Summer day. No issues. One of them takes up about 206w, which is nothin' on your electric bill. Awesome options, efficiency, efficacy, simple to set up, good results. I recommend it.
