LED lighting

Hey all,
I was just wondering if anyone is experienced with LED lighting? I was thinking about getting it over a HPS/MH bulb to save on heat, electricity, and hassle. Do these lights look alright High Tech Garden Supply or has anyone had any experience with them? Should I maybe get some more supplemental ones for on the side? I heard the yield goes down with LED lights too. How much does it go down? Is it the difference of 1/2 oz or 2 oz? I'm sorry for all the questions. Just want to be informed and found that you all are the best for that! Thanks guys

also, if i could, would it be worth wild to get like 7-9 of these for a 3 x 3 space? or is it too much? is there ever too much with led? i know i have a lot of questions so maybe if you guys have a good link that i could read i would really appreciate it. but first hand exp is always welcomed. thanks again

i was thinking about getting one of those 4 packs with mixed lights for the top, and then a 4 pack of red to put on the side for flowering. does anyone think this will counteract the stretching and less yield?

hey miles, although i cant give you first hand exp. i've also done some research on the LED light systems that are offered. It seems to me that people who grow with LED's more often than not compliment it with flouro light and I have even seen them used with hid's...I've actually even been thinking of ordering some of my own (in the right spectrum of course) because ive heard that the heat emitted is really low, but with no actual numbers that i could find on heat and all that im still a little wary. Check out youtube for led grows and maybe youll find something I didnt. Or just order them and let me know how it goes!bongsmilie

i bought the four pack of LED's...i grow in a cabinet...small...too :( the the four was not enought. A lot of stretching. So i bought a 2ft T5 set up (four bulbs) and i have 4 26 watt CFL's....AND my four LED panels and i'm finally getting some decent results LED panels are nice..but not enough on thier own.

how many plants were you growing acid? would you recommend just getting some hids or what? i'm just worried about the heat and ventilation so leds seemed like the perfect investment. booo lol oh well. i think i'm goign to go with a 400w mh/hps setup. thanks for all your input!

If you want to save on heat, electricity and hassle, get fluoros. They are pretty much the cheapest lighting, give off a low amount of heat... usually the plants are fine if they are touching them a little, and use very little electricity.

you dont want to buy an led lamp unless its made with high power LEDs. Check out CREE. they use their bulbs in the lightblaze 400 and the procyon 100. the ufo is a big waste of money, ive seen results from a friend from the lightblaze and it was phenomenal, just not sure about the budding yet. so far it looks like theyre better for veg and kinda weak for flowering

Don't bother with LED, they are a huge waste of money. And there is still heat. You will get bigger, denser buds with HID lighting.

You can go buy a couple $20 150w HPS lights and grow way more bud, and all the money your saving by not buying the LED you can spend on a portable AC. 150 or 250w HPS are not even hot at all anyway.

Theres been a few threads on LEDs, usually they end up in a lot of fighting and everyone realizes in the end its a waste of time and money. Stick with the proven methods.

from what i have seen with led lights is they dont really have the brightness to penetrate much of the canopy, although the spectrum is exelent for plants they dont seem to have enough brightness to form compact buds and they are also not good at producing resin like an hid, my friends dad owns a hydro store where they make hoods and all kinds of stuff and they have been doing a lot of testing with those, if you do get one make sure that it has no less than 1 watt per bulb, anything under that is junk. i think that leds are going to be the future and that halides and hps will loose their domination in the grow room...its just that they are not advanced enough yet, i recently saw some light strips at my friends shop made by ge and they were 4 watts per bulb and they did quite a bit better but heat was an issue with them...not in the room but heat on the circuit boards and stuff like that, they even had a water cooled prototype that his shop was testing with butg they said that it will probably never make it to market, anyways i would say get a small hps and then use cfl's or tubes for supplemental lighting, a 250 hardly has heat issues as long as you keep air flow
