no, no, no, no, no, no, and throw in a few more no's for good measure :)

LED is a complex topic, but it all boils down to one thing, they cost 4 times as much or more than HID, CFL, or T5's. You get some cool benefits for the premium, and you also spend a little to support newer technology that is still evolving. In short, if cheap lights are what you are after, led is not where you want to look. If you have a load of cash and want to setup a killer op from it, led is something to seriously consider.

edit: I don't mean all LED's cost 4 times as much, I mean the cheap led's won't grow shit and to grow as well as the proper grow lights you will have to spend that much more. YOU are better off buying CFL's, lots of them.

build your own using CREE's Leds 3w each. Use royal blues, reds, and whites. I think white is around 6500k the blues are 420mn and reds are 520 mn something like that. Then add 60 degree optics this will intensify the light. 48 of these 3w leds equals around 400-500 MH. if your really interested in growing with LEDS look in the salt water forums on LED builds they are alot more advanced in those forums on growing with LEDS. They have done many many PAR testing using CREE led's and show its just as good if not better then a MH on penetrating dept and par ratings. I just built a LED fixture for my saltwater fish tank to replace my 150 Metal halide over it. All you need is the LEDS, heatsink and DRiver. Then wire it + to - . Serious man don't waste your money on these cheap a$$ LED's their the whole reason LEDS have such a bad rep in growing. If you spend the money and get the best LEDs it will work.

Yeah everyone in this forum is old school. Im going to be doing a DIY GROW LED here soon, using 6 3w cree LEDs Im doing 2 red 2 blues 2 whites. I will be running them Using 60 degree optics and will test it on a clone straight into flower. Right now Im getting about a ounce off my clones that I go straight into flower. Thats using 400 watt HPS so well see what type of weight I can get with this LED unit. I know I won't have horrbile results and I could even get great results. I havn't seen anyone using these super high power leds for growing yet in these forums so it will be interesting. The best part about LEDS besides saving your eletric bill. Is it only puts out heat for about a inch.
