Led Strips Stay Slightly Lit when Timer Goes Out?

Hey Riu,

Just noticed a problem with a recent build using 10 x Cree JB series Strips that i recently bought from cutter electronics,

i have these currently mounted to a large 1000mm x 600 mm x 25mm Aluminium sheet, with a ELG-240-48 running all the strips in parralel for around 500ma per strip, the driver is mounted to the back of the aluminium sheet and grounded with the ground wire directly to the frame.

i have just noticed when the timer goes out (and hours after they are supposed to be off), all of the leds stay very dimly lit, they can only really be seen when you look directly at the diodes, at first i thought it was some sort of reflection from somewhere making them look lit up, but upon further inspection the diodes are lighting up slightly.

i unplugged them completely from the power circuit, and checked them again and they were no longer lit.

has anyone experienced anything like this before?

Edit : it may be my wiring somehow leaking voltage, or the digital timer that is being used may not be grounded correctly.

Yes. Not sure of the technical reason but Its usually poor quality PCB manufacturing. I had it a lot with one certain company (not cutter)..

PSUAGRO.

Try a mechanical timer , some cheap digi's allow a trickle to pass. Back in day they would reek havoc on fluoro longevity.

Could also be bad/no ground from the fixture as stated.......

Good luck

try putting a diode in line on the power side of the light

If the timer is electronic you may be getting some stray capacitance issues, try disconnecting the time and just power the lights, off and on
Cheers
