LED Technology in the next 3-5 years?

I was actually going to try lettuce under LED this spring, I haven't seen that thread until now, but can you quickly summarize? I am assuming that by this challenge, you're saying it either can't be done, or is inadequate in getting the job done. Just looking for a bit of elaboration, I mean, I don't want to waste time if it can't be done, but I would give it a go to satisfy the challenge.
The object is to find the ideal Spectrum / Intensity with led to grow Field grown size and quality heads of lettuce with no mutations or other leaf abnormalities.
Was hoping that the more folks contributed the better odds of working out the equation without 1 person having to purchase and test all the potential combinations :hump:

But growing non-branching single stalk plant like lettuce, which is harvested long before it ever flowers - actually tells us very little about growing a flowering, branching shrub like cannabis.

A better plant choice might be Basil, or even better yet, peppers.

It tells us a lot about a light sources true ability to produce vegetative growth on "par" with what the sun does naturally
Come at me with your lettuce bro :P

No, it really doesn't because its a completely different type of plant. Its well known that different plants have different morphological responses to various spectrum combinations. If you want to try to extrapolate to cannabis, grow something that is actually similar to cannabis, or, just grow cannabis (now that's just crazy talk!)

Cannabis is simple, seems to adapt to even the most shitty spd.
The challenge is a well formed HEAD of lettuce.
There is such a thing as a single light source that all plants will accept just as the sun - It's called the Hortilux Blue MH. It will grow lettuce and Flower Cannabis on par with any lights on this forum. I am looking for the led equivalent..

Thanks for the explanation, didn't mean to instigate any disagreements :)
I will give it a go likely using a mixture of COB and a few fixtures with 1W diodes from the early days :(
Look for some posts on your thread from me in the future. Cheers

Yea it's going for 1,600 but I only paid 1,200 I got the original nextlight 525 from him when he was working out of his garage I had a diode go out he replaced it for free brand new in the box and said he would give me a discount if I bought another one then the mega came out I hit him up and he called my local shop gave me $400 off so it wasn't to bad.

I did 2 plants last time topped and got about 12 ounces dry this grow was sloppy and last second I'm on right now I'm going to do c99xblueberry next time topping them. Lights great for canopy but not far below that

The team of scientists behind the invention say they used relatively inexpensive laser equipment to grow crops including tomatoes, cucumbers, radishes and dill much faster and with higher yields.

The prototype equipment moves though rows of plants in a greenhouse, blasting them with light, to boost their growth and kill diseases.

The researchers behind the invention claim the technique produces ecologically-clean plants because no pesticides or other chemicals are needed to accelerate their growth...
