I'd go 8 to 10 if thats what he suggested. How much was that light?


As i say 15" is the lowest it will go so ill leave it at that. I didnt have much hope for the other one anway when i saw it this morning, it had stretched to twice the length over night:( Never mind i only need another 3 anyway and i did 6 all together so i stil have one spare.

I paid £400 british pounds for it and i paid £800 for my 280 watt main light in my flowering cab, the mian lights have got CREE XP-E reds in them and they look awsome so im hoping the high price will be worth it.

Target more for 75 - 90% of what you were using for HID.. otherwise you'll be disappointed.
I disagree. In just my veg I've cut down from a 600w HID down to under 200w (advertised watts) of LED. That's 33% less on 18/6 In 12/12 and I've cut down from 2000w of HID to about 700w (advertised watts) of LED. That's about 35% less with at most a 5-10 drop in yield. +Cooling costs kill me in cali. Using a 100w blower and a 750-1500w air con was killing me.

The last two HPS users I know who I trust enough to show my setup are now picking up LED units. The closer to1000w of LED I've gotten to, using multiple units the less I see issues of footprint and penetration. Think of it this way with one panel some of the light that pours of to each side is basically unusable but when you combine two panels that each have a border of unusable light on the side of each panel when combined makes that previous unusable light usable. It's very similar to how (2) 400w HPS can do more than (1) 1000w. When you use 4 good panels with some kessils(and I have them but don't like them) to fill in the holes it makes allot of the mostly unusable light usable. It takes some planning out and getting to know your particular lights. Most of the panels starting out work well at lower the wattage but once you get multiple units to double up these edges of unusable light they begin to dramatically move toward the percentages that these manufactures claim. I am using a third of the wattage and barely seeing any difference in yield. Like I said 5-10 %. On this latest flowering in just two weeks I am seeing more dramatic budding than I have ever seen under HPS. This year I will be getting close to 2600w of LED which I can easily afford in energy costs if I don't have to use half of that in cooling costs and Trust me I will be pulling down 3x the amount I was with the same wattage of HID 2000w flower and 600w of veg all LED will be INSANE!!

I ran an actual ammeter on both and the magum ACTUALLY draws 1.43 amps @ 124 volts so pretty much 180 watts and the ISIS 1 draws 1 amp so pretty much 120 watts. I don't have the FX-1 so can't comment on that.

Whoever designed the panels nailed it. I'm happy with what they're doing for me. Whoever is in charge of marketing should be shown the door.

Like I say with any company, don't believe the hype...believe results.

I have mixed feelings on this. Sure it sucks to be sold one thing and get another, but I am more than happy with the results at the advertised watts and seriously don't think I would have even tried the 170fx1 had it been advertised as 120w. Before I gave it a shot I didn't think it was even possible to grow with LED so I don't know. I needed a little deception to give it a shot I guess but I know I will never go back.

Here is a pic of day one in my grow cab, one of the seedlings has really stretched as you can see, i hope its ok, it handt had any light until today so i guess thats why it has stretched.

The light above it is a 140 watt veg light made by richard the custom led guy off ebay. I didt want to put it to close as i know his lights are very powerfull and didint want to cause any damage. Im just hoping the stretched plant will be ok.

Any advice would be welcome if you dont think i have done it right.
I'm a rookie and am almost through my first grow. But one thing I did was start the seedlings out under a 24W (6700K) CFL. I kept them under there just under two weeks. This allowed them to develop their first set of fan leaves. After that I transferred them under the HPS (LED in your case).

My next grow is going to be a 150W HPS supplemented by a Prosource 90W UFO LED. But again I'm definitely going to start them under a CFL and let them develop for 10 - 14 days before hitting them with LED.

But overall I would only take my advice with a "grain of salt" and end up following what some of the folks with more experience have to say.

Best of luck on your grow. Keep us posted and I'll do the same when I add my new LED for my 2nd grow.

Yeah isn't that the kicker. If I hadn't been "lied" to out of the gate and thought I was buying 180 watt LED's I probably would haven't bothered either. Now I understand a bit more about it I make different decisions but given the lifespan of these units the marketing is probably best geared to first time buyers.....hence the bullshit. If you are a legit company and post real numbers you will lose sales to the guys who are lying. Tough call!

@ Icyblaze I cant private message you to answer you question because your mailbox is full. I would say if it's a 90w ufo, you'd be better to save a few more $ and get a panel. If it's a ufo I'd skip it. What brand? What is your budget??

All it means to me is I have more watts that I can use, which means even more coverage. I was wondering why my power bill was even lower than I thought it would be. I just don't get why people waste their time LED hating. If I didn't like them so much I would much rather be dealing with my cooling issues or making sure I wasn't starting a fire instead of commenting on an LED thread.

i actually believe this thread is turning.....where coming out of the curious phase arguing over which led works and who has the best and brightest......turns out every who recently got an led is happy with their results no matter what the manufacturer.......so the led taboo is officially over in my opinion.....now we just have to see which led's are gonna stand the test of time

You don't usually lose the whole unit, but you do lose whatever else is running on that power supply which is usually a good chunk of your panel. I think when Hudson pulled his apart it had two power supplies for the LED's so you'd lose half the panel. I don't know about the current model but the previous model year was not wired to prevent this from happening.
depends on how many led's per string... it's the string that goes out, not the whole panel

ISIS and Magnum are wired so just the individual LED goes out and Spectra advertise on their site that they are wired that way also.
Sounds like they wired parallel... meaning individual resistors per led... major wast of energy.

Well I'm no electrical engineer but electricity takes the path of least resistance so if you parallel wire an LED and Resistor the current goes through the path of least resistance (LED) unless it's burnt out in which case that circuit is then high resistance so it will go through the resistor which is necessary to stop the current increasing in the remaining LED's and causing cascading failure from running too high a current.

Am I missing something?
