Nice LU, actually, I encourage CFL and LED be used together. If your plants are having nute problems, LED only lighting makes it hard to spot. With CFL lights added, you can eye problems sooner, plus you are giving the plant more light it can use, always a GOOD thing. :)

Agreed. Mixed lighting seems to work really well. I use to use CFL/LED but changed over to HPS + LED for better coverage. It has been getting great results so far and runs MUCH cooler than plain HPS.

well heres the pic i promised, the seeds were planted on the 8th of september so to give you an idea of age. i went with led because of leccy costs really and the ufo led seems to be very good on the electric.
heres the pics now i have an led growing the plants, in flower about a 1.5 weeks now.

in the first pic i have put one of the big spray bottles in the corner to give you an idea of size but they are about 4-5 foot now, upto about 3 foot on cfl.
let me know what you think
sorry about the big pics , it would only let me post urls and not upload direct to the site, sometimes it does and sometimes it doesnt:!:
cheers

Hey I'm a straight on noob here and I'm working with a generic 90w UFO (off of ebay for less than 150 bucks) tri-band, 1w crees, supplemented with two 105w CFLs (400w equivalent, 1 2700K 1 6500K). The medium is pH balanced between 6.5 and 7 every time its checked and the water is filtered, purified and pH balanced. There is a mini-humidifier to keep humidity above 55% (still in veg.) and there will be a mini-fan to supplement air circulation. There is a large intake fan and a passive exhaust system*. Temps between 77 and 85 constantly. All of this occurs in a 36 x 24 x 46 tent lined with mylar. I'm currently 5 weeks into veg and I'd have to say that things have seemed somewhat slow but since its a first attempt I'm sure some of the bumps in the road have added some stress and effected some delayed growth. But, LEDs seem to keep the plants real green and healthy and they grow strong if not extremely fast. Also ferts: miracle grow all-purpose vegetable for right now but will be switched to an appropriate bloom fert. Supplemented with VermiT solution from vermicorp. I would love some feedback about that strange UFO positioning, is it useless that way on that angle? Just came about organically--slight pun, forgive me--in the course of light placement changes. Let me know what yall think

*passive exhaust: the tent has opened holes opposite of which is placed a fan to push air out while circulating that air across the plants. sort of a 2 in 1 function.

Also, For those interested, that white pvc pipe is an indication that this is a miniature earthtainer container....www.earthtainer.org, check it out!

allegedly there is a new line of leds that just came out. i would keep up to date on any information with your local hydroponic store on them.

hi DR.J
the led that you got was it one of the ones from the 2009 growboys, or did you get the new 2010 model. the reason i am asking is because the ones from 2009 are really engineered towards flowering, or at least thats what i was told when i spoke with them. for an all round growth i would recommend the newer model led. if i was you i would put 2 cfls directly above the plants you have and when they are in flower i would put the led directly above as the one you have is supposed to be best for flowering. keep the leds on aswell.
then again i am a noob aswell who has just done lots of reading and used what i have learned in my grow. one thing i have learned is that you will get a hundred answers to every quoestion you ask.lol.
good luck
lu.
by the way you seem to be doing everything ok in every other respect.

from the leds i have seen and the ones i have read about, the lighthouse ones seem to get the best reviews (ufo) , they do two models now the 2009 growboys and the new 6 band which i purchased. both seem to be ok.

"2x Higher PAR output than 1w LEDs"
Is the claim I see on 3w LEDs.

So is that 3x the power for only 2x the PAR? Is that basically why 1w are efficient enough?

i know it hardly makes sense does it, 3w leds use 3 x the power and only 2 x the lumen power. thats what i was told that i should just get the 1w ufo as they are very effecient.
some of the figures i read left me really baffled. the 1w cree leds are supposed to be a lot better than bridgelux.
dont quote me on that though, i heard a rumour.

What do you mean LEDs dont promote branching
and can u provide us new pics of ur grow?

Best reviews from who? The Growboys is not a real magazine and is not a real site. It's a fake front used by Gotham Hydro to try to sell their LEDs. I don't trust them.

Hello,

I'm using the Lumigrow ES330 supplemented with 216W of T-5HO's and I think its fantastic, but I haven't started flowering yet. One thing I've noticed with the Lumigrow is the internode spacing is very short as compared to my old MH/HPS light. I'm also getting very short, bushy plants, and I'm growing a sativa strain which I expected to be real tall and stretchy but once again I have yet to flower. I've noticed with the LED lighting the plants are branching off in lots of different places which they never did with HID lighting. I have a ton of bud sites already and the plants haven't even finished week 1 of veg. I'm growing in soilless mix using House and Gardens full nutrient line and the combination of nutrients and lighting is working great. One of my biggest questions is what kind of yield should I expect? I know its highly dependent on strain, which is Silver Haze #9 from Sensi Seeds. Heres a few pics, not the greatest quality because I only have a cellphone cam at the moment. These pics are two days before I complete week 1 of veg.

I'm not ignoring you.... I don't see every post made, sorry. Now if you were on my friends list and sent me a PM.....

LED lighting doesn't penetrate the way the sun or hid lamps do. If you look at my old thread, there was an excellent explanation of spectrums used by the plant and what LEDs provided and what they did not.

There is a grow going on now by G.O.D. in which he has powerful Kessil LED lamps and he is trying to train the plant in a scrog.... he is getting no stretching or branching and it is frustrating him.

Here is one pic of the plants as they are now....

plsfoldthx if you dont trust them then thats your opinion and your entitled too it. as for the other leds that were for sale if you do a bit of research on bridgelux and cree leds then you may see that cree 1w are prefered slightly. i dont spend 200 euros on a light that i dont think will work and if you dont like led lights then fair enough. i thnk your in the wrong forum. i thought this post was for people growing with leds or are interested in getting them. if you aren`t then im sure you can find a nice post where they are talking about hps lights and that growing media. i have posted pics of my grow and i think its doing pretty well with the new led ufo. there is another grow on here where a guy is using the new 6 band led and he is quite happy with the results. personally i would always supplement with cfls for the extra. also when i ordered my light i phoned gotham for advise and they were great(im in ireland),i was not able to ring anyone in china who were selling the cheaper leds (such as the ones on ebay) if i had four 90w leds against one 250w hps i think led would suit me better as they would be using same amount of electric. if you dont agree with anything im saying then tough its my opinion and everyone is entilted to one. but please stop taking asking people to prove what they are saying because nobody has to. i am happy with my grow and i hope you are happy with yours. dont think for a minute i fell for the growboys bit, it was a marketing ploy and with many years in business i can tell you sometimes a little ploy like that can really reep financial rewards. you may not believe this but not all businesses tell the truth these days and do you trust buying things from china?
good luck

hi serapis
were you happy enough with your led and cfl grow and can you see how it would suit some people due to the heat benefit and smaller grow areas. i myself can see there is an opening in the market for leds for certain individuals. i understand about the penetration but when used in conjuction with the cfls do you think if placement is correct this could be overcome?
thanks

hi ok computer
those plants of yours look to be coming on fine, i can let you know what yield i get from my plants because i should be finished before you. hopefully it wont be too bad but it wont be as much as growing with hps i dont think, but not too far behind. if i was you i would be very pleased with how they are coming along. its funny how you mention the branching because the grow i have the plants started to branch a good bit and they were already a week in flower.
if you want to keep an eye on my grow or get updates i will be posting more updates in the irish growers thread.
good luck with your grow and i hope you are happy with your yield in the end. i personally could not use hps as the space i have the heat build up would have been too much and i would not have been to fix enough ventelation in place to keep cool, i am only using a small computer fan now and its doing a great job.

Absolutely. My first grow was intended as a personal grow of 5 plants, under strict LED, as a test of the HTG lights. I've recently been struck by a small tragedy in my life and am in sudden need of cash. I now need to grow to pay some expenses and I switched over to HPS. LED and FL have many benefits used together, and I highly recommend them for closet grows where ventillation may be a problem, or where 600 watts may overload a circuit breaker.

The lights do produce, they do flower. I've seen one gram per watt achieved with nothing but a single LED UFO. For personal reasons, I have made a switch from LEDs, but having used them, can recommend them.
