I’ve seen king rite site. They seem to deal only in quantum boards and I’m wanting to do a strip build so as to spread more even coverage. Less chance of hotspots . With I could find a affordable supplier building with more diodes packed at the ends of strips to help ppfd at ends and corners how cool would that be. But thanks cikabika I’ll go over the site again.

Hey everybody who is using LEDs out there. Lets join up and start chattin about this and that. Figuring crap out. Seeing what works for you, but not me, etc. etc.

It would be much appreciated if only people who USE CURRENTLY leds for mostly full grows, or vegetative grows using only LEDs.

HID users, we already know you are better than us, and your buds are bigger than ours. But there is a first time for everything, and a new beginning at ever end of something old.

ALSO IF YOU ARE AN LED SALESMAN TRYING TO SELL YOUR PRODUCT THIS IS NOT THE THREAD FOR YOU! STAY AWAY! IF YOU ARE AFFILIATED WITH A COMPANY AND HAVE BIAS FEEDBACK WITHOUT RESULTS. STAY AWAY!

Thank you all, and I hope this thread EXPLODES in growth...

LED USERS UNITE!

Current Status: Not Growing Yet
Current equipment: Prosource Jumbo 180W UFO.

I was reading the old coments compared to the old and it's amazing to see how led lighting changed since 2009. I use a 350w full spectrum led from viparspectra and i have to say i have nothing but amazing results from led lighting as led can be tunned in to the right waves of ligh and colour

And Viparspectra is not the cutting edge even.

Most all white COBs and a couple white Cree discrete diode panels these days but started LEDs in 2012 with an original blue 270 watt Lumigrow and an original 182 watt 357 Magnum which outdid the Lumigrow and roughly equivalent to 250 hps.

A51 white and red/white panels way outdid hps here starting in 2013. At 190 watts my xgs190 got close to my 400hps.

Incredible amount of new LEDs and Boards and COBs hitting the market right now and price per watt price drop has made very effective lighting available to most anyone.

Well I went with the 2 250w lm301b with 660nm 288pcs. a board. Meanwell power. So 500 total watts for a 4x4 I should be O.K. I have 4 vegging girls and a couple teens (well one the same age as the big girls but she broke on main stem when 14” tall and I brought her back so she’s behind.) I’ll probably keep her as a mother. She’s a GG I also have a gg blue dream cross and 2 chaos girls ready to flip as soon as the light gets here. I’ll post pics soon. I wish I time for the parts to arrive from various vendors for a linear build considering I could not pull the trigger on one of the builds off Ali.

I agree that viparspectra is not the top cutting edge led light brand out there. But man i can get 2 nice size plants to grow vigorously. Which is perfect for me since im growing for personal use. I have a pink kush under flower since April 1st it was 14 inchs tall then now it's 22 inchs since then

Any builds previously done with Chinese outsourced products off Alibaba. I’m in need of a light to flower a 5x5 area. I bought a hipargero 800 of amazon and it’s amazing. Who would have thought my girls LOVE IT . Sadly it’s sold out and don’t know when it will return. And Unfortunately I want a stronger light and have learned enough to know I can build my own with a bit of help that’s better than any on amazon or eBay or expensive fluence or mammoth lights. And the Athena plus isn’t even up to par of the light Id like. I have about 5-6 hundred I’d like to spend. Can anyone give me any help?!!

Some good guys on that thread who will be able to help

I really wish it would transtion into bud production i just want to see it slowly fill in under led lighting

Can building your own led lighting be more effective
Most of us build our own.

However its kind of cheating, we use boards or strips or COBs and just match them to drivers and build a frame and add passive heat sinks.

Not many folks building using individual diodes like you get in vipars.
We can get a lot more efficiency with the quality parts we are using these days.

I was curious about how you guys did it i was wondering if you guys did use heat sinks and fans. I could not picture a huge set up with no fan to help cool. Have you ever heard of viparspectra

Well heat sinks are all about surface area, so if you want to run passive then you use a bigger sink.
If you want to save money on aluminium then you actively cool them with fans.
The problem with that is if a fan fails then the heat sink is no longer good enough to keep those diodes cool so they can burn out quick and be even less efficient.

I run a few QB kits, so I cant say I built those, they are just boards screwed to a heat sink.
But I did build my cob light, that has oversized heat sinks, they are pretty cool to the touch.

Yeah I have heard of viparspectra. You get what you pay for. But the main thing is your happy with the results your getting. bongsmilie

One of the reasons i trusted viparspectra was the warenty the offerd shitty light companies wont offer good warenty compared to ones who know how to build a light fixture

Just space your strips accordingly. For example, don't just space them all 3" apart all the way across your tent. Space the 2 strips closest to the middle 6" apart, then 4" and then 2" all the way to the edge, or whatever works with your space. Building with strips (or cobs) allows you to create a perfectly consistent spread of light.

Also, the corners and edges of your tent get the most reflective light so there is bonus light there.

Personally, and because I've wanted to try building both, I have ended up using 3 separate lights I built in the tent. The middle is a strip light and the 2 lights on the outside are cobs. It
