LED veg light?

Hey guys, I've seen quite a few successful grows done with LED's here, and I've got a question.

What would be a good LED veg light that would suffice for flowering under two 600 watts? Any help and input would be great, thanks a lot.

I'm sorry but there is NO LED light out there that can match two 600watts of HID light.
They may be cheaper and stealthy in the long run but just stick to a HID. (Mh/HPS) they will give alot better light.

LED's give smaller yields and the light does not travel as far so you'll have to have much more to match it.
In other words waste of time and money...

hey thanks for the reply! I'm not looking to replace, i just wanted to use one just for veg, and then use my two 600's for flowering.

Are you looking for a veg light for 18/6 or are you looking to replace your two 600W HPS for flowering? Your wording is quite confusing.

2 custom made LED of 288 x 3W diodes could replace your 600W HPS. Most LEDs use 1w diodes and the wrong ratio and wavelengths. I chat with a lighting technician and have seen his results, and they produced very nice plants with tons of resin. I have a couple pics of them, early and near finnished. Avoid ratios such as 7:1:1.

Check out my website and the EFDL induction lamps as well! I know the correct ratio for growing any plants with LEDs, not just cannabis. Ancient chinese secret. LOL

I don't think the others understood your question. But don't worry, I understood it. I come from a fairly good background flowering and vegging under LEDs, I think I can help you out a bit.

I usually flower about 1000w mixed LED and HPS. My veg room that supplies the plants for my 1000w flower room consists of 3 x 90w LEDs. For your two 600w, It all depends on whether you want the plants big before flowering or only about 12-16" tall. With my 3x90w, I can veg around 30-50 half gallon/quart pots depending on how big you want each to get.

I usually use one light for clones now and the other 2 supply more than enough light for vegging to keep my flower room full. Hope that helps. One 90w LED UFO can veg a 2x2 spot very well.

Lol, sorry I was really vaped out last night, that wording does seem a tad confusing. I'm just wanting to add another light for veg and wanted to use a LED. I have two 600's that i want to use for flower.

Agreed... Stay away from LED right now! The technology just isn't there. I use a 6 bulb T-5 (4 high output blues, 2 reds) for my seedlings, clones, and early veg before either moving them outdoors in the ever intense sun, or under the next best thing, metal halide & high pressure sodiums. As an experiment, I decided to switch my bulbs out so I have 6 high output reds in my T5, giving me the wattage & lumen equivelent of a 400w HPS. While this experiment has shown me success, the bud is fluffier and nowhere near as potent & frosted as it would be if it had proper lighting. And this is with a T5. LED's will only be WORSE!

Go for 400-600w HPS if you're cramped on cash for equipment, electrical bills, or both. While the lower wattage lights emit less heat and cost less, if you have the money, you're better off going for a full on 1000w lamp system. Upgrades that will also be worth your while as far as lighting: 1) Upgrade the ballast to a switchable ballast. This will allow you to veg your plants with Metal Halide blue spectrum @ approx 7.5k Kelvin, then switch to HPS for flowering, running @ approx 2.7k Kelvin in the Orange/Red spectrum. The plant will photosynthesize more effeciently at these difference phases with these two spectrums. 2) Upgrade your bulbs to Hortilux's top offerings. Regardless of the same wattage requirements, bulbs with higher effeciency can emit 20-30% more lumens than cheaper standard bulbs. $20 upgrade, well worth it! 3) Upgrade your hood/reflector to one with 6" or 8" ventilation ducts and tempered glass so that you can properly cool your light with a blower/ducting. While pushing the hot air out of the room with this system, you can have another blower pushing cool/fresh air into the room. This air flow function will help your room with gas exchange and keep various levels in check, while keeping your room cool.

While some of this may be too advanced at the moment, I figured I'd throw it in there, as I've seen people quickly learn in 6 months and next thing ya know they wanna spend another $1-2k on equipment upgrades. Might as well do it right the first time & save yourself bigger costs down the road. Good luck, & stay away from those LEDs til the technology is up to par!

Cheers!
Thanks for the tips and advice bro! I'm just looking to add a new light for veg, I wanted to go with an LED because of electricity, and i've heard they are good for veg.

I actually purchased mine off ebay. LED technology has been iffy in the past; but, most companies that are still competitive have all leveled out so far as quality is concerned, otherwise they wouldn't be doing so well.

Here is a pic of my old set-up. It produced too much light and I had an overload of plants all way too big. I have since moved one light into my flower room and only 3 are remaining.

I paid around ~$150 apiece, you can probably find them now for ~$20 cheaper (maybe more), just be sure to read the reviews and check the return policy. If it's a well established ebay seller for a LED or hydro store, it's probably a pretty legit buy.

Here is a good looking light, quad-band (4-color spectrum):
http://cgi.ebay.com/New-90W-LED-UFO-Quad-BAND-Hydroponic-Lamp-Grow-Light-/320574061419?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0
You can get cheaper ones, but this has a 2yr warranty. I looked through a few others but the cheaper they got the sketchier the sellers looked. Also, the dual and tri band lights run a little cheaper also (2 and 3 spectrum lights). Or, you can look for 5 and 6 spectrum lights for another 25-50 dollars extra; but, those are designed for flowering. A tri or quad band light with 3 (red/blue/white) or 4 (red/orange/blue/white) different spectrums will be plenty.

I ran 2 tri-band and 2 quad-band, they seemed to produce similar results under veg conditions.
