LEDs ?

So i got thiss oldschool buddy of mine who is an electrician as well as a carpenter who sets up grow rooms around my area...he doesnt grow but has learned alot about it from setting them up...he says that all he sees lately for lighting in the grow rooms around my city are LED lit in the past couple of years...because they are harder to detect by police,use alot less power,and you can fine tune the spectrum to your plant specific needs based on the type of sunlight it needs for whatever cycle it is in....but i have heard lots of mixed reviews on the subject...he gave me a 15W led that lights up my whole fucking room a purpleish red color so im sticking it in my room along with my CFLS but would my whole city be growing with LEDS if they are as finicky as people say? and some people say they dont have great yeilding potential but according to what ive heard the correct spectrum will get you more bang for your buck then a HPS any ideas?

havent seen many good yielding grows documented, but theres been a couple. im testing some out, this will be my first well grown crop that i didnt burn the shit out of them with nutes, and their lookin great

I was reading about them in a link from another lighting thread. The place that sells them pumped them up well. It say the give off 95% usable light for your plant, problem I saw was the cost. The led that would compare to a 600w hps was like $700. It all makes sense but I too have not seen to many documented grows with them.

I think the LED technology has come along a long ways, the latest HD LEDs have higher output
