Lets talk about Seed Addiction (Hoarding)

In this thread tell us all about what got you into your seed collecting as some of use have so many seeds that would last a life time or longer and old rare stuff we are hoarding that probably will never get ran or whatever it maybe.

When you see something new its like you gotta buy it and before you know it 125 packs of seeds became 126 packs. Lol

Would be neat to here everyone story from start to now and how thats going for them and what all gems they are hiding away.

i just started a year ago and i dont even want to say how many packs I've accumulated in a year

I been trying my hardest to not buy seeds for the last month but fell off the wagon a few days ago when i saw a BOGO sale

Ya I have a problem.

I go through phases where I make a bunch of purchases, even though I know it will likely be years before the seeds ever get grown. This makes even less sense since I've started pollen chucking and started harvesting my own beans.

Wth, still a very inexpensive hobby when you consider the returns.

Malberry on HD has a bunch of African Sativas. I don't know anything about them, though, other than they exist..

My friends and i started growing many years ago way before the internet.
We simply kept seeds from the weed we purchased that we thought was good and we'd plant them . Some of those strains still exist today in our collections. I still remember the first time we found out that you could order seeds out of high times and have them shipped to your house.
The friend who wanted the seeds was afraid to have them shipped to his house so I stepped up to the plate and told him he could use my address but there was a catch.
I wanted a portion of his first crop using the order. He was more than happy to do that.
He also wanted me to allow him to use my address for having a 1000 watt metal halide light system to be delivered to the house and I agreed . That was many years ago and we've come a long way since those early days.
We each have a very nice collection of seeds now some purchased and some of our own creations . We've had some success with some of our creations and some failures but sometimes we go back to some of those original seeds and it takes us back to those early years . The familiar smells and tastes and memories. I'm pretty sure that we both have seeds that some people would pay big bucks for . Some of our seeds go back to the 70's most of which is sativa's with a few indica's. We both consider ourselves very lucky to have gotten into this hobby as early as we did. We're both in our 60's and still going strong

Admitted pollen chucker here. It wasn't always easy or inexpensive to acquire seeds in heavy prohibition times, so making them made sense. Had a nice collection that fell into the Gestapos hands quite a few years back...but obedience has never been a strong point for me. So, now, years later, I got a nice collection, again.

It's not an addiction but an investment. It amazes me how cheap seeds are compared to the finished product. I've probably got over 100 packs already and just ordered a bunch more. Now if only I can find a way to make all them last for as long I will need to pop them all.

So i started back in 07 or so full time but my hording didnt start till the last year or so. Just cause of how the game is going i dont want to be buying seeds from walmart that are all gmo. And i couldn't tell ya how many packs i have all though i bet my wife could

Like many on here I have many packs, far more then I will likely grow... then I clone the strains that I grow, further reducing the likelihood that I will get through them....

I wish I could just grow as many or little as I want... would be awesome to have multiple plants of a 10-20 strain grow.

I made a post about this yesterday in the Cannarado thread.

I'm sliding into this addiction and I don't fucking want to. lol.
I'm trying hard to fight it.

Since I made that post I ordered two more strains from OES.
Fucken hell.

I'm telling myself that there's only 3-4 more I need/want and then I'm done and will be making my own seeds from then on.

That's the plan to make this addiction * temporary*.

That's the plan, at least. haha.

Completionism.... and addictive tendencies. I had well over 700 different crosses and 300+ landrace/inbred lines until very recently. Been slowly whittling it down a lot just by sending stuff I know I'll never get to out to folks I know who will reproduce/continue the lines.

I'm not cloning any plants because of my addiction. If I clone stuff, I'll die before I go through my collection. I've decided to start collecting pollen instead of buying more seeds. With that said, when my wife goes out of town I normally make a small order.

Also, Bodhi has some landrace/heirlooms that he releases quite a bit. They go pretty fast though.

What I have bought in the last year and getting ready to get another 10 packs of cannarado genetics . I don't see it as a problem but more of a hobby . Some collect sports cards some collect seeds.

OK, I have a problem and don't care other than I need to begin considering putting my seed collection into my will.

I have a minifridge full of breeder packs, my own crosses, and stuff I have traded for. I either need a new minifridge, a larger regular fridge, or intervention. I am so wrapped up in making my own crosses that I don't ever get a chance to pheno hunt packs of fire in the fridge.

Add to that people have begun to give me packs to do open pollinations. I'm currently running my own 19 plant '88 G13 x Hash Plant OP and have a gifted Bodhi A13 Gorilla Arm x A11 Genius up for OP next.

I will point out those small photo albums in the bargain bin at Michael's or your local art store is awesome for slipping packs into. I just tore off the cardboard covers so I can rubber band it shut, pack it into a small Tupperware with some rice and seal it into a ziplock bag or vacuum seal bag. I also have a spreadsheet to track what I have, although mine is horribly outdated.

Admittedly, I feel quite inadequate in comparing my rather modest stash of 10-15 strains..
Was trying to find some decent landrace sativa stuff last year to integrate into my crosses, (Durban Poison)but then figured I might yet be Up to my ass in Alligators with what I have already...
Not to mention, options up here in Canada tend to be a little more challenging other than the couple European seedbanks Ive used.
