light distance and reflection

just got a "sun analyzer"





to mesure foot candles .. just a cheap model (on the right my new microcope)

used 350$ at my hydro store the other day .. so he trew one in for free (older modles they had for years and had on sale)
but I guess he notice I was looking at em .. did`t want to use hundrets on one but this was on sale from 80$ to 40$

nice hydro guy .. I knew spending the littel extra cash in ther insted of ordering online would pay off

well reason why ... I have been wondering a littel when it comes to my T5HO lights I use for veg..

found out between 2 and 4 inches seems best .. but would be funn to see what the diffrent is between 1 and 10 etc.

well have to wait for Veg. to see (even tho I am temptet to pull em out and test em)

for now I testet my 600W HPS and the reflection as I found it funny to see what the diffrent is between Maylor (the diamond kind) and flat white and also the diffrent between diffrent distances ..

have flat white on one wall and maylor on the other (will now get me some more maylor for sure !)



a foot away from my 600W HPS give me around 7500 foot candles ..

witch seems right as that is about 80K Lumens per sq. ft. and my lamp is on 92K Lumens ..




this is pointet away from the HPS .. at the maylor .. witch is about 1½ foot away from the HPS (I did point it on the most iluminatet spot) and it reads about 6K foot candles witch is 64K lumens per sq. ft.




6½K pointet at the HPS at my littel bud site ... (about 16-20 inches away)




low bud site I have around 2K foot candles (21500 Lumens per sq. ft.)



pointet at my other wall ... have no maylor ther as I had flat white and did`t think I needed to get more (I know now)
2K foot candles !!! 1/3 of the maylor .. same distance and also pointet and the brightest spot ..



just thort some might find this intersting .. know I have been wondering about stuff like this before I got the sun analyzer
ask if you want to know sumthing or what me to check sumthing out for "you" also testet a normal 40w light bulb in my hallway .. give good light .. but need to be realy close ..



will try to update this thread (if my great memory dont fail) with the T5HO when I begin my seedlings in a week or two ..
might remember it when I mesure them .. will be funn to see what the diffrent is between 2 inches and maybe 6 and how much the low grow do get ..


I know this cheap sun analyzer is`t that accurat .. but it do show the diffrent between distance aso.

atlest now I know that maylor is outstanding and flat white sucks hard ..

and I also know that 16 inch`s away from my very top to my 600W HPS is perfect .. atlest if I also want to cover some space/my plants ..

it also means that most of my buds are with in 18-22 and get +5K foot candles and lower buds 25-35 inchs away even get 2-4K

just a littel update:

with out pics ... just startet my new seedlings (a week or so ago but of course forgot about this thread untill I got a like)

I have a 6 tube T5HO fixture .. have 2 bulbs running now .. and I have to be with in 10 inch`s to get a readin .. after 12 or so I cant get any ..

2 inches away I can get about 1K foot candles = 20K Lumens per sq ft.
but its mostly betweek 500 and 1K with in the 10 inch`s

so as I allready knew .. its good light .. if you have the right Kelvin and keep them right on top of your plants and when the plant/upper grow is +10 inch`s high its time for the HPS or I would realy suggest Ppl. to LTS em like crazy and keep a even canorpy .. buds need to be with in 2-10 inch`s to get enough light ..

will update it later on with some more pics when I have all 6 tubes running .. might make a diffent ?

so yea .. between 500 and 1200 foot candles .. way less then my HPS but still enough for Veg. if you keep it close ..
and I bet it also could flower some decent smoke if you dont expect to mouch ..
