What's up guys I wanna diy a led for my 3x3. Im.thinking im gonna go with 12-14 2ft f series strips. Attached to u channel from onlinemetals, powered by a pair of hlg-185h-24a. Gonna replace my 600 watt hps, really a 450 watt due to dimming more than 50% of the year. Anything you guys would do different? Any suggestions? Total is gonna come out slightly over 300.

Sounds like a great plan. 400w in a 3'x3' should rock. Are you going to stagger the strips to cover the whole tent or just line them all up down the middle leaving 6" on each side? What type of heatsink material are you going to use?

Definitely gonna stagger them to cover as much of the tent as possible. As for heatsink I was thinking 1 of these http://www.onlinemetals.com/merchant.cfm?pid=1061&step=4&showunits=inches&id=297&top_cat=60 per strip. Then maybe frame it all together with angle.

You should just try a 315 CMH man. You won't be disappointed.

I was looking into cmh for a while. Was looking at the prism ballast, mogul socket adapter, and Phillips bulb, but that's gonna run like 200ish. For a little more than 100 more I can build the light I'm talking about. Not saying the cmh is a bad option, but for 100 bucks more I think I'll build the led. Read a good bit of the cmh club thread before deciding to do the led.

I went cmh and led, I ended up with bridgelux strips and a broken Philips agro 3100k bulb. Philips balast arrived shiny for $110us and bulb $120us had a broken inside Glass jacket -.- strips where $7 each and have handled my rough hands without a hassle.

Go led and cmh! Just pray for a bulb that isn't smashed :P
