I'm running a 2x2x4 grow tent with this light

My question is, can I get away with hanging at the top of the tent and leave it at 100% or go with the manufacturer's instructions and dim accordingly to dial in ppfd range at given point of growth?

You're gonna want that fairly close to the canopy, I'd go with 12-14" at 100%. Keep it about 50% until the plants get going good. I use the ss1000 (two of them) in my 2x4x4 veg tent. I keep them 100% like 16" away from tops and plants do great

Keep it at the same heights while at the 50% mark?

Yea, I try to always keep it at the same distance from the tops. Just turn it down some when the plants are young, like the 1st week or 2, then crank it to max

I noticed the s1000 dont have a reflector like the sl600. Would taking it off be any more beneficial in have the light spread and reflect off the tent walls?

Trust me, you'll want to lower and dim the light or your plant can/will stretch, and that's not good in such a limited space. This particular fixture didn't have dimmer so I didn't have much choice, my plant still stretched too much.

Start around 18” - use the dimmer control to help harden them before mashing gas. Some plants get light stressed / bleached from intense led.

Read your plants response.

I hang at top of tent, 300 watts in 3x3. Previously using a marshydro TSW2000, got a FCE-3000 just recently, which is insane for the price.

I use dimmer @ 75% first 3 weeks then 100% until last 3 weeks, which I go back to 75% last few runs.

Here is my latest, the one gallon are just shy of 3 weeks in, and were seed into soil. The cups are all 2 weeks in and were rooted in water for 3 days sitting on the driver for this light, then planted. I need to get some more 1 gal pots.

I lowered the light slightly the other day as I was cleaning, but I'll put it back at top shortly.

Anyways this will be my 7th indoor run and last 4 have been with light at ceiling and just use dimmer.

Results from last 3 grows were just short of a pound each, with 2 plants flowering, usually about a foot of space left from tops to lights.

I'm not a fan of lights being inches from tops, as its so easy to burn your plants.

The s1000 draws 100w & 986 umol compared to yours at 85w and 886 umol.
It simply is more powerful therefore it will probably cover a bit more area.

I personally wouldn't take off the reflector if it's not supposed to come off, not worth risk breaking the light.

If you want more coverage simply get a more powerful light. Bloomspect, Spiderfarmer, Marshydro, Viparspectra all have those 100w lights that cover a 2x2 tent perfectly.

Try yours for 1-2 grows and see the results. If you want bigger denser buds then simply upgrade your light. That is of course, if you tune all other aspects perfectly ( nutes, ventilation, RH, temps, watering etc etc ).
