light height

hey guys i have a 1000w hps how high should it be from my plants they are about 5 inches tall 18 inches 4 ft...... thanks in advance

If it burns your hand after a min or two chances are it will burn the plant... Also look around for adjusting them according to your plants strength. If your plants are weak and stretched they may not like all that light too close and you may have to put it high and lower it day by day. Also depends on the heat and how good/bad your ventilation is..

well i started off at about 5 ft lol stretched them out but now i have a chart i lowered them it to 18 inches i have a fan blowing under canopy just above plants make them move a little for strong stems and my temp stays around 77 to 80 degrees

where your hand is comfortable in the light, there should your canopy be. (older plants handle being closer though, same as in the tropics, but unless your humidity matches those conditions, smell and taste of plants will suffer if hot (bearably hot instead of comfortably hot))

plus most indicas and hybrids, dont have the right structure to handle the higher heats, because the humidity gets too much for them.

75f temps at canopy are perfect, but fine up to 85f (taste and smell finest at 75f) starts degrading after that.

though for example, 95f temps will lose about 15-25% of smell and taste if the conditions are very arid. higher humidity will help preserve that.

though its just easier to keep the lamp further aways and a larger growspace instead.
